Been a wet night here and supposed to continue all day!
On the plus side we are supposed to get a lovely sunny day tomorrow with temperatures up to 11.
Going to celebrate Mothers Day tonight with DD as she is working tomorrow. She is going to make her speciality, chicken stirfry and make some cocktails too
Hope you get to the film leanfun - well done. Our rich neighbours from London who have had a house here for about 10years have just sold their London house and moved here permanently (although buying another house near a daughter further north) The woman will miss her films and theatre here! They are telling everyone they are Scottish now :rotfl:
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend.

Happy Mothers Day, Sun is shinning here.
We made it to the film in time for the pre film tea or coffee and cakes between 1 and 1.30. It was at Charlotte Hotel off Tottenham Court Road. They have a cinema in the basement for about 100 people. Although there were less than 50 people there. The film was brilliant, emotional and uplifting at the same time. Breathe is a true story of Robin Cavendish who contracted polio at 28 in Kenya in the fifties and he went on to live into the nineties with only being able to move his head. He had a son born just after he became ill. Interestingly his son produced the film and it was made by the BBC and the BFI.
As we had the coffee and cakes everyone there was very young. Except two couples of mother and daughters. DH asked is this women only as we only saw one other man. The competition said they had 25 pairs of tickets and it was with the Emerald Street email. We sat in the second row with no one in front row and just two others in our row so it felt like we were the only ones there.
As a nine year old we moved house in the fifties and at the end of our road there was an isolation hospital and I remember seeing a lady in a big wheel chair sitting out on the veranda. We found out that she had been a ballet dancer who contracted polio. She used to paint ballet dancers with her mouth. Thankfully we now have vaccinations and the whole attitude to disability has changed considerably..
Sheils your neighbours will certainly find a difference moving from London. Its only since I have been so lucky with comping that we have been up to the West End so much. When our children were growing up we never had the money to go and later when I worked that took up all my time. I think the country side has so many benefits.
Hope everyone has a great day.0 -
Leanfun, sounds like you had a lovely time, film sounds moving. My elder brother has severe special needs and so for my 40 years of life we have been involved with Mencap helping out. There is for sure less severe issues now than there was then, sadly it still happens sometimes, but at least there is more knowledge and medical help in pregnancys now. I myself had a severly disabled daughter who sadly didn't make it, eve if she did she wouldn't have lived long.
So i'm thinking of her today, and two other angels. Now I'm surrounded by 3 crazy boys and I love them to bits,
Sorry I checked out for a while. I went to London yesterday on a day trip with the local community . Finally saw all of the natural History musuem but came back exhausted.
And I came home to a craft box full of sewing things I won..I haven't comped in a few months , depressed, so it lifted me and I'm back on it.
Love to all and happy mothers day! Ill try to keep on top of the board again sorry for missing you all xxCompers challenge 27/70

:hello: Good afternoon everyone
I hope you're all well on this glorious day!
It's a beautiful day here, sun is shining and birdies are
singing away!
^^ Brilliant find fire**fly! Many thanks for posting it.
It's lovely to 'see' you again mummy2threeboys and no
apologies necessary. :A I love the Natural History
Museum - it's so fascinating. And very well done on your
excellent craft box win! :j :T :j
The film sounds wonderful leanfun - I particularly love
'real life' stories.
I thought the film rang a bell - I recall reading about
Robin when I covered World Polio Day on the Betty thread
last year. What an amazing man and family! I'm pretty
sure I've seen a short clip of the film too.

^^ This link is brilliant - showing an insight into history of the
iron lung and also polio sufferers.

Thank the Lord for both the guys who invented the iron lung
and for the men who eventually developed the polio vaccines. :A :T
Hope everyone's having a lovely Mothering Sunday.
I've received a huge bouquet of my favourite flowers and Mr.
Fothergill's seed collections from my son. My daughter sent
a gorgeous personalised painted wooden box (homemade -
don't know where she finds the time!). Inside it was crammed
full with scented candles, a Mum's notepad and 2 boxes of
chocolates. The box will make a lovely keepsake. I'm
so very proud of them both. :grinheart
The icing on the cake is that they're all planning to come &
stay at mine in a couple of weeks for a fun-filled Easter family
celebration. :j :T
Have a lovely rest of the day all ...... I'm off to make a cuppa
and have a bit of a comp catch up!

:hello: Good morning everyone
Hope you're all well on yet another glorious weather
day. It looks as if we had rain through the night and now
the sun is just peeping out from behind the clouds.
I had a lovely evening yesterday .... scoffing the chocs ,
enjoying a couple of drinkieswith scented candles
on the go.
My daughter also surprised me with another Mother's Day
gift when she face timed me yesterday - a garden themed
course at my favourite garden centre (in the summer). :j :T
Hope you all had an enjoyable time yesterday.
Have a lovely and lucky day all and please take care
whatever your plans.

Morning all. Very dull here today but I did wake up earlier with the lighter mornings.
Thanks for the links and pictures Alfie. It does make one think about how medicine and related inventions have come on.
Alfie you were really spoilt for Mothers Day thats great. You will have a few weeks to prepare for them coming at Easter. Will be great for you to have new GD to stay as well. We too have DD2 and family coming then plus DS.
Well rain held off until late afternoon here so we were able to have a trip to local park.
Hope everyone has a grood week and good luck.0 -
Lovely sunny day here - got washing out and been for a walk.
Going to do a few comps after lunch. DH is making us a bacon sandwich.
Haven't had one for ages.
Saw an iron lung at Newcastle Museum a little while ago Alfie. First time DH or I had ever seen one and we were quite shocked at what it looked like! Great you were spoilt on Mother's Day. DS3 coming next week so is cooking his Mother's Day present then! It isn't easy for my lot as my birthday is so close most years.
DS1 has found the solution and sends my flowers on Australian Mother's Day.
He is coming on 15th May with his girlfriend for 2 weeks.
Hope everyone has a lucky week.
