Wow, there's a lot more info on St Dwynwen's Day than there ever was when I was a kid in Wales. Thank you for that, there was stuff there I didn't know, or had forgotten.
I have a similar hanging to the 'cwtch' one, but mine is in the shape of a sheep, and says 'Happiness is knowing you're Welsh'.
The Costa Book prize is a lovely one. Here, I have had some good books arrive to review. One fiction, I don't read many, and a non-fiction one (biography based on a blog).Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Morning peeps. A cold frosty one here. Cars are all white. Mini pavement gritter went past around 6am so pavements should be ok later. DIL is still very unwell with flu and GD still has a sore throat but has not got any worse apart from a cough. My cough is still driving me up the wall but chest has eased thankfully. Both GK's want scrambled egg and toast for breakfast so will only be making porridge for one this morning. No packed lunches today as it is fish and chip day. So they are having school dinner. Hope everyone else who have cough and splutters or any lurgy are feeling a bit better. Take care everyone and be lucky.0

:hello: Good morning everyone
How's everyone today? We enjoyed a day of sunshine
yesterday down my way and it looks to be similar today
after a chilly start.
I spent a couple of hours happily pottering around in my
garden but did notice that my shed has sprung
a leak (after the horrendous wet weather t'other day).
There's a weeny damp patch on the floor so will have to inspect
the felting today. A stitch in time etc! Really thankful that was
the only bit of damage ..... ancient and rather dodgy gates
survived yet again! :j
Hope you're feeling better now sheils and enjoying your break.
Sorry to hear that SIL is feeling very poorly today rose.
Also hope the coughs troubling you & GD ease a little through
the day. Sending get well (((hugs))) to you and yours.
Many thanks mcculloch29 & fire**fly re St Dwynwen's Day

writing about various customs & special days - as you can
both probably tell!
Have a lovely and safe day all - please take care whatever
your plans.

Good evening all, long time no see, sorry. Life is really busy here with family, we never seem to be without someone calling. Not complaining though as lovely to see them but it does feel rather like a cafe sometimes LOL.
Sorry to hear that a few of you have or have family members with the flu and hope you all recover well.
I am glad to hear that things are getting sorted for you firefly and take care not to over do things, you need to look after yourself as well. Hugs for all the family.
Sorry to hear about your washing maching getting broken Indie and hope you managed to get it fixed or replaced soon.
Look after yourselves everyone and good luck.BIG THANKS TO ALL WHO POST THE COMPETITIONS0 -
hi bit late but its been busy here collecting GS etc. Today it took us an over an hour to pick GS up from school. it was an hour later as on Friday he goes to Drama Club. Childminder wasn’t able to pick him uo yesterday or today. Normally 45 minutes is plenty of time. Lots of wow about other drivers. in the end I said to husband its not very good going out Friday afternoon or early evening.
Good news I spoke to my sister today and she said she has been out and the pain inherent chest and back has gone. She is due to go back to work next week.
Firefly so pleased you have news and can go ahead next week. big hugs.
Great to hear from you Sylvia.
Alfie thanks for all the info very interesting.
Shells hope you are both feeling better and are able to enjoy the break.
Rose so sorry to heat your DiL is still not well. Do hope you are all better soon.
MCullough great to hear from you. Take care.
We are hoping for a quiet weekend. Cant believe how fast January is going.
Take care and be lucky.0 -
Morning peeps. Hope I find most of you cold and flu free. Have been up since 4am with grandaughter (she was sick twice) Now have her tucked up on couch. My throat feels a lot better today. DS is coming down later to pick up grandson as he is playing football in the afternoon. So far he has missed sore throat bug. DIL is still not very well with flu she says her skin is even sore now as well as her body. She has no energy and still has a bit of a temperature. Her mum is having GS tonight and tomorrow and taking him to school on Monday. Will see how GD is over weekend and decide whether to send her on Monday or not. Good your sister is a bit better leanfun. Going to nip over to shop for some morning rolls for grandson and I. As he wants a bacon roll and tea for breakfast. (put his order in last night lol) Hope you are all lucky with comps over weekend. Take care.0

:hello: Good morning everyone
Your GS sounds such a character rose! So sorry to hear
about GD feeling off colour this morning and also that SIL is
still awfully poorly with the flu bug. Sending big ((hugs))
to you all.
Hi sylv. Wonderful to 'see' you. Sounds as if your lovely family
are keeping you on your toes!
Brilliant news about your sister leanfun. :T I know what
you mean about the end of January fast approaching! The time
seems to fly by. Me thinks you both got caught up in the 'early
afternoon/evening Friday traffic, where everyone's impatient to
get home after the working week.
As it's the Big Garden Birdwatch this weekend I found the
following article & added it to my morning post in the Betty
thread. I think it's a wonderful idea. :A
RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch flies into care homes
Care UK homes around the country are once again gearing up to
take part in this year’s RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch.
Residents have their binoculars at the ready and bird feeders filled
as they prepare for the world’s largest wildlife survey from
Saturday 27 until Monday 29 January.
Silversprings in Thorrington, and Colne View in Halstead, will be
visited by Kala, ‘the Owl Lady’ in the lead up to the Birdwatch,
while Cedrus House in Stowmarket, and Hartismere Place in Eye,
will be visited by Suffolk Owl Sanctuary – where residents will
have the opportunity to meet different owl species up close.
Field Lodge in St Ives, will be visited by the Raptor Foundation,
which focuses on the rehabilitation of raptors, and residents at
Knebworth in Woolmer Green, will be visited by British Falconry
Association.
Pupils from Epsom Primary School will be joining residents at
Appleby House in Epsom for a special birdwatch art session.
Residents are also making home-made fat cakes to encourage
birds into the home’s gardens.
In preparation for the national birdwatch Priors House in
Leamington Spa, has invited Simon Watts from ‘Wild Presentations’
to give a talk on bird life, as well as taking part in a live bird count
with residents, and their family and friends.
The team at Heather View in Crowborough has organised a
birdwatch themed quiz for residents, to test their knowledge ahead
of the birdwatching weekend. Residents are also looking forward to
a visit from the RSPB, who will be popping into the home to talk
about bird life in the UK.
The RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch has taken place annually over the
last 38 years, with the information collected each year helping the
RSPB form a picture of bird populations across the country and
highlighting any trends or changes. For more information, visit
rspb.org.uk

Just got to find out where I stashed my binos from last year
then I can finally do the BGB! Knowing me I probably put them
in a safe place, never to be seen again!
I didn't have time to inspect the shed felting yesterday fire**fly
so will have a look today. You're always in my thoughts - take
care. Sending ((hugs)) to you and yours. :A xxx
Have a lovely Saturday all whatever your plans.
