    :hello: Good morning everyone

Hope you're all ok especially those affected by heavy
snowfalls. Please take care. xxx

Still no snow here - in fact we have a bright and beautiful
morning. Did have horrendous gales throughout the night -
very scary. Just been out to check on any damage and my
garden gates have done me proud! They stood up to the
beating and survived to see another day! :j :rotfl:

    Wass.gif

January 17th is “old” Twelfth Night – when the calendar was
altered in the Eighteenth Century, some events kept to their
original day rather than moving with the new calendar and the
Wassailing at Carhampton is one such event.

There is a Wassail at the Community Orchard first then another
crowd gathers in the orchard next to the pub, around the Old
Apple Tree; toast soaked in cider is put in the branches for the
    robins at both events
while cider is poured over its roots, all to
encourage the tree to produce a good crop the following harvest.
Wassailing carols are sung, shotguns are fired to awaken the tree
spirits, a bonfire is lit and a good time is had by all! As a rare
survivor (as opposed to a revival or new wassail) this event is
often used as a model for others, and has been highly influential in
the modern wassailing scene. Hot cider is on offer both at the
Orchard and at the pub, and sandwiches were given out at the
    Orchard.

I'm guessing there will be quite a few 'merry' Robins today in
    Somerset. :rotfl::rotfl:

    :T Wonderful prize fire**fly - very well done. :T :j:D

Just popping in, no comp wins, but a cute dog Christmas tree ornament to review,
There are two more on the way as well, that one is a Maltese Terrier, I also have a French Bulldog and a German Shepherd Dog en-route. I would love a Springer Spaniel or Old English Sheepdog to reflect the breeds our family has owned, but these will do just fine.

Good luck with your various doggie ornament reviews
mcculloch29 - I'm fairly envious of your excellent writing
    skills. :T

Yesterday I watched Britain's Favourite Dogs: Top 100 - so
entertaining and lovely to see so many gorgeous breeds
including a Heinz 59 variety. Must admit though some of
the stories reduced me to tears. Such devotion. :A

Hope you enjoyed your family Christmas feast yesterday
    evening sheils.

Well - must get on - have a lovely & safe day all and keep
    warm.

Had a lovely family meal last night thanks , plus a few drinks!
Unfortunately I seem to have developed a bad cold now and dreadful cough. Worst of it was we had the dentist and hygenist this morning. Anyway managed to survive it, although need to go back to have a filling replaced at begining of Feb.
We had a covering of snow - just enough to freeze and cause problems. It has all gone here now but some parts of the region are bad.

Hope your pavements are better now rose.

Well done on the light win FF. It sounds good.

Glad your fences were ok Alfie.

    Hope everyone is ok.

Little pavement snowplough has been out and cleared top layer of snow and put down some grit. But underneath is frozen solid so will have to wait till grit does its stuff . Did a silly thing had kettle on for a cuppa and leaned over it to get a t-bag from jar and burned my wrist with the steam. It is nip nip nipping. Had it under cold tap twice but no difference.

Hi all. We have just spent a few days with DS but are back home now.

Congratulations on wins FireFly and mummytothreeboys. Great to hear of some wins in the Inn.

Firefly been thinking of you a lot. Hope you have some news soon. Hugs.

Shells just saw you have a cold. Hope it does not last long. Pleased you had a good meal with family. Must be great having chefs in the family.

My sister had a really bad cold on Saturday and yesterday doctor sent her to hospital. They are testing for flue or an infection and she has symptoms of a pulmonary embolism she was waiting for a scan to see but in the meantime they are treating her for one. My sister has had a lot of illness but usually bounces back really quickly.

Well it has been very cold and dark in the south with some cold sunny days in between. I did manage a walk on Sunday and a short one today. Im so unfit its unreal.

Do hope all of you who have snow are keeping warm and safe. Saw its bad your way Rose and Sylvia. Hope it clears soon.

Alfie take care only go out when its a bit warmer. Talked to a neighbour out gardening on Sunday and thought of you.

Well as I’m writing just had a message from my DS. She says she feels a bit better this evening. They have lost the flue swob so she has to do another one. At least she will stay in her own room until they have results. Less chance of catching something else.

Take care everyone especially if you have snow and ice.

Forecast for Scotland is more snow tonight. Son phoned to see if I wanted to get some supplies in so he came and took me down to Asda. Fridge Freezer and Cupboards stocked up lol. Just need to nip over to local shop for milk if I run out. Where I used to live before I moved back here was always getting snowed in as it is so high up so used to stocking up just in case. Hope you daughter gets better soon leanfun. Keep warm everyone.

Stay safe everyone in the snow and ice. I saw it was worse in Scotland so take extra care Sheils/Rose. Good idea getting extra supplies in!

Hope the cold clears up soon for you Sheils xx

Well done on the lumie body clock fire**fly :j Aw I hope you get news soon what you're waiting on xx

Leanfun, hope your sister is better soon xx There's so many people lately with really bad influenza and hospitalised.

Alfie, thanks for the info on the sugar swap :A very interesting. I like cashews and nuts so may swap for that. DD1 wants to do it too except when it's her monthlies as she said she needs her choc then! :D

The one thing I like to watch on tv is Corrie but I just cannot keep my eyes open for the full episode! I really should watch it on catch up :o
I had a nice £50 win on a scratch card yesterday right after I decided to open my money saving tin! :p I had £212 in tin though which is more than I thought I had so that was a bonus :)
Big thanks to all who contribute to the forums. Be lucky everyone and be safe!

Rose definitely a good idea to stock up.

Rose and Wings thanks re sister. I’m just pleased she’s having treatment.

Wingo you sound like me watching the Tv. When I worked I always said I wanted to watch the news and then promptly fell asleep.
Well done on your scratch card win. Great you had more savings than you thought especially this month.

    Hi everyone,

Still not feeling great and have lost my voice now too! We have some snow here again, just enough to cause bother on the pavements.Glad we aren't away anywhere anyway. Weather looking OK for next week when we are heading to Edinburgh and then a bit north.

Hope your sister is OK leanfun.

Well done on scratch card win wingo and glad you have more savings than you thought! I won't keep money in the house since we got burgled.

Going to try a piece of toast now. Did manage a yoghurt earlier.

Afternoon peeps. Hugs ((((((((()))))))) shiels wrap up and keep warm. No more snow overnight but pavements have frozen and they are a nightmare. They have forecast more for later today so managed to get things done this morning. Making a fish pie for DS to pick up later and some lasagne for his freezer. Well done on scratchcard win wingo. I have not bought a lottery ticket for myself in ages so may buy one for myself tomorrow. Bought some at Christmas to put in with family presents and two of them won. One with 3 numbers and one with 4 so they won £25 and £99. Not bad for a £15 investment. Shiels hope you feel better soon. Colds are not fun even although you are told you are not ill it is only a cold. Hope everyone is keeping warm. Take care.
