Dusty, I love your comment about Gaelic spelling and pronunciation. I am trying to teach myself Scottish Gaelic (and failing miserably) and I seem to remember reading that there are only 18 letters in the alphabet but that there are more sounds than in English! I had to laugh when I saw Caoimhe’s name. Her brother is called Rory, spelled that way as they thought Ruaridh was too complicated! Ava is a lovely name, dusty.
You may remember my DS lending his car to the parents-to-be to get to hospital. Well itturns out that someone has dented it while it was in the car park. Grrrr!
Lioness, all those lovely plans you have mean that the week will pass very quickly and any SW disasters will be gone before you know it
That’s a fab loss, Msm.
beanie, that was a great news story. I liked the one about the surgeon who walked 12 miles from Anniesland in Glasgow to the hospital in Paisley, via the Clyde tunnel to perform surgery on a cancer patient. So many people have gone the extra mile, from clearing paths to driving people to appointments/work.
Oooh, nice biscuits, bubbs. I’ll steal one if you don’t mind. I love the ONE little set of footprints in your pic. It begs the question ……….
DH took me to shop today. No bread or milk or bread flour - or wild bird food! Low on fresh meat and potatoes, but not bad for fruit and veg! We are doing ok, although I’m down to just a little wholemeal bread flour, so today’s loaf was a 50/50 and after that it’ll be white.
Breakfast: hexb roll from depths of freezer, bacon, tomato sauce (1)
Lunch: Thai carrot & coriander soup (1 ½ ), small slice 50/50 with butter (what the heck – 6)
Snack: 2 ginger nuts (4)
Dinner: smoked haddock, baby potatoes, broccoli and beetroot, lo jelly ( ½ ) and mango
Snack: hexa cheese & grapesSewing 88/COLOR]Woollies 19Card s 91Reading 37/400 -
It will be interesting to see what happens at class this week.
Class on Thursday cancelled because of the weayther.
There was a class today at a different venue.
Will be interesting to see if we have to pay double next week.
There will be a riot if we do!I am a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Mortgage Free Wannabe & Local Money Saving Scotland & Disability Money Matters. Well done msm on your good loss! :T
Found some mushrooms in the freezer. I generally only use them in casseroles but am going to give them a go with the burgers and fried onions. I had 2 satsumas at the football ( have never gone back to Crunchies) so making a big effort to keep Speed up.
denise got me thinking. Can I ask a question about stew?
I grew up with my Welsh mam making cawl which can be made with lamb but mostly with beef shin. She made it by simmering the meat with root veg, typically onions, carrots, parsnips, potatoes and sometimes swede. The 'juice' was thin like a consomme. Occasionally we'd have suet dumplings in it. I love it but DH isn't that keen. He's an English man!:D
How do you make what you call stew? Do you thicken it? Is it like a gravy? What's the difference between stew and casserole?
I think beef stew sounds great on cold, winter days but does it mean different things to different people?0 -

My consultant has posted on Facebook that we don't have to pay because of the weather. Also anyone on a Countdown won't lose the week either! Good news for a change!

Basically the difference between and stew and a casserole is that a stew is cooked on the stove top and a casserole in the oven. At least that's what my mum used to say - and mum knows best, LOL!
It depends on how much liquid I put in to start with whether or not I thicken it. Today's wasn't too bad today so didn't thicken it but the LOs haven't got much liquid left in it so have added a tin of tomatoes and will decide when I reheat if it needs more liquid and whether it will need thickening.
Can be thickened the same way for the HB beef using cornflour and mustard or my current way is using Xanthum gum because it's Free and you don't use very much at all - usually 1/4 to 1/2 tsp is enough.
Don't suppose it really matters what we call it it's just beef & vegetables cooked long and slow at the end of the day!
I always serve it with some mash so that also helps to thicken it a bit too.

Evening.... I have not been good.
Breakfast
Quark, applie, tangerine and blue berries.
Lunch - I went to hell in a hand cart!
Sandwich from Boots
small pack of puff crisps
Smoothy
Then I started eating the large pack of goats cheese and balsamic vinegar crisps.
They to stop me eating these I went into a shop to get something on plan - nothing - I ended up with pasta, tuna salad (which was covered in mayo).
But I carried on eating the crisps... so I failed.
Tea - I was good.
Went to pub with friends I was going to have a burger - but they had run out (god was watching me) so had salad and chicken.:D:D:D:D:D
