Hi Mrs SD!
You really are going great guns and will soon reach your French target, I'm sure :rotfl:. Hope the hordes turn up in force over the next 3 weeks...
Glad someone has high hopes for my interim total. The targets were done as a bit of a joke really, but I'll be interested to see how close I can get. I'm really tempted to add the defunct washing machine that left the house just after New Year, but that'd be cheating :A (something like 150-200lbs )
Given your perfectly healthy curiosity as to my methods (Translation: Yup, I'm a nosy c*w too) I can reveal that I did find a way to find out the weight of furniture and large items.
It is...
...drum roll please...
...ask on the product website/Google it! :rotfl:
Decluttered some stuff today and put more up on Freegle. Then I got side-tracked by RL admin which (alas!) doesn't weigh anything physically.
Anyway, decluttered items today are:- Light fitting from DD’s flat (inc box), 7lbs , packed in DDC
- Smoked glass door from long-vanished music centre which I was ‘keeping to do something with’. (Wonder what?!), 4lbs, Recycled
- Mixed recycling (inc glass bottle), 2lbs, Recycled
Day's total = 13lbs
Running total = 88lbs
Think that's me off to bed now.
Happy decluttering everybody.A budget is like a speed sign - a LIMIT not a TARGET!!

basketcase,
Just read your post & you have really cheered me up + I laughed so much that I now feel a bit warmer (it is freezing here - colder than November when we last visited:eek:)
No hordes today but a second hand dealer turned up this a.m. with a van :T:j so
F775 - F781 Tractor mower, dark wood drop leaf dining table, Vacuum Cleaner, paraffin heater, 2 side tables & a chevalier mirror - ALL SOLD
People might turn up tomorrow, weather permitting, as it is a National holiday
Re your interim total & the washing machine - why not have a 2nd total for the whole year running alongside the interim totalso
TOTAL 1 = 88lbs
TOTAL 2 = 288lbs
You might even remember some other things you threw out before you started posting - maybe a defunct kettle, bedding you donated to cs, a stack of books or magazines you cleared outI could go on
but you get the idea
:D You haven’t sold a motorbike perchance because that would really bump up your totals :rotfl::D:rotfl::D:rotfl:
I love it - product websites
- lateral thinking but I was hoping to hear about winches & pulleys or trips to the truck/lorry weighing stations
:rotfl:
Wishing everyone continued success on their decluttering mission :T & villagelife keep up the good work

That's right, Mrs SD, Laugh at my misfortunes...:D
I did, briefly, consider going to a weighbridge before and after delivering any items I ditched/delivered. But that would just have been silly...:rotfl: I must say, I do love your idea of the 2 totals and am busy trying to remember all the stuff I decluttered before joining the thread. (I don't think there was a motorbike, but you never know what's in the Bugs Bunny Cupboard!)
Anyway, I didn't do too much decluttering today, because it was my birthday and I decided to spoil myself. Call from DD, who's not back till next week - which is when I get my present. Long, hot bath then face pack and foot mask while watching (recorded) bad TV and reading. Lovely! Tonight I was out to dinner and the cinema with DS. Very enjoyable.
As it's the last day of the month, I hoped to get my total to over 100lbs, so I looked round for a quick fix and rationalised the bedding. And I did it! :j .
Kept 3 lots of bedding each and put the rest for the CS. If they think it's too worn, they'll sell it as textile so no loss 4lbs. Also, DD had sorted her clothing and had left a big bag in 'Bugs'. Asked her about it and she said it was rags, so out it went 16lbs.
I've freegled some stuff, but it hasn't gone yet. Have a bit more to freegle and some I want to sell, but haven't got round to it yet.
Totals
Daily total 20lbs
Running total 108lbs (or, possibly, 308lbs)
Happy decluttering everybody.

I think weighing stuff would have been a good idea here as the blocks of concrete and the large pieces of metal in the garden were extremely heavy.
592 some name tags thrown away
593 a piece of lace trim that I will never use
594 a on/ off cable thing for a tens machine that I never use. I will use the button on the machine itself.
I decluttered those items so I had something to post.0 -

You're doing really well, but if you fancy weighing stuff, I'd go for it villagelife! Maybe measure alongside counting? For one thing, as you say, concrete and metal weigh heavy but only count as an item a piece. Yet the difference when you move, say, 5 of them! Think that's one thing that has kept putting me off. You can do a lot of hard work for little apparent result.
For another you'll become aware of just how much individual things mount up. Well, I have. I'm decluttering various half-used handcreams etc by using them up. Only an ounce or two a piece if I'm lucky and the effect of the clearance visually isn't great either. So I'm noting the weights and will post when I reach 1lb. (Which may be a while...)
One thing I've found about weighing is that I can see more clearly what needs to go. eg I've got an old sewing machine. It's basic, but it works. It also weighs - wait for it - 38lbs!! I've kept it because I can make curtains, do repairs, even start making my own clothes again. But I haven't. Why? because it weighs 38lbs! I can't leave it set up and it's blimmin' heavy to keep hoiking about. It isn't helping me to do more sewing, it's actually stopping me from doing any at all...
Intellectually, of course, I've known this all along but it wouldn't sink in. Now I'm getting rid of 'weight' aot objects - it's 38lbs! :j:rotfl:So I've freegled it and had quite a few responses - including 2 charities and a theatre group - all of whom could have been making good use of it. So out it goes. I have a lot of stuff like that.
Anyway, good luck with the decluttering, however you measure it.A budget is like a speed sign - a LIMIT not a TARGET!!

:bdaycake: Belated birthday wishes basketcase _party_ sounds like you had a good day
That is one heavy sewing machine(not quite as heavy as a motorbike
BUT a good start
) & now you have become the giver of expert advice
My DH bought me a lovely sewing machine several years ago (birthday or Christmas present - getting oldso don’t remember which :rotfl:) However although I practised with it a couple of times it is sooo complicated & has so many bells & whistles that it has remained covered up, UNUSED & hidden away
:o:o I had so many aspirational plans - making Cushion Covers, curtains maybe even attempting a skirt but that has not happened so time to bite the bullet & sell it on
. As you said ‘intellectually’ I know it has to go but it is hard to let go of the dream
I will stick to the hand knitting
& baking
I am also keeping fingers etc crossed re your freegle items & hope they all weigh loads
villagelife, it is addictive isn’t it - decluttering so you can post something:rotfl: now don’t you go
upsetting
basketcase with weighing tons of concrete :rotfl:
I do love this thread, ideas galore & encouragement enough to scale Everest :j:rotfl: & sometimes that’s what it feels like when looking at my clutter (& the clutter here in France)
DSis & DH have moved furniture out of the gite into thesale room
& now DH is dismantling nephews bed for a trip to the Tip :T
Still freezing here & not a customer in sightpeople are obviously staying in & trying to keep warm
Keep up the good work everyone

Thank you, I had a very good day. Out today with a friend having a cream tea at Dobbies (free for my birthday so even MSE!) While we were out we delivered a couple of freegles and bought some large bags of pet food for which I'll get cashback from my bank, so MSE and productive too.:A
I know what you mean about things like your sewing machine. I'd have difficulty parting with it too. (Maybe you should weigh it!:rotfl: ) As for being an expert, of course I am! You know the old saying "Giving up smoking's easy. I've done it hundreds of times". Substitute decluttering and I'm your man! So to speak. Been there, done that, read the books, worn the t-shirt till it was in holes then put it in a drawer because it'd come in useful for something! :rotfl:
You sound as if you're getting on with the French Declutter (French Dis-Connection?!) really well :T. I do hope the bed dismantling doesn't mean your nephew's sleeping on the floor though! Fingers crossed the ravening hordes descend at weekend, regardless of the weather. Now, if they lived in Scotland, like me, at the slightest sign of sun or blue sky they'd be out in their t-shirts. Even if it was knee-deep in snow on Christmas Day. Of course, if it was warm they'd be moaning that it was too hot and stay in in the shade, turning bright red regardless
. (I wish to point out that this is not what I would be doing, but my Scots friends tell me that they would! :rotfl:)
Anyway, enough of this frivolity. Today's haul is:
Sewing Machine, 38.5lbs, Freegle
Decorating Table, 7.5lbs, Freegle
Totals
Daily Total 46lbs
Running Total 154lbs
villagelife - if you want to weigh concrete feel free! :rotfl:

Happy birthday basketcase. Sounds as if you had a good day.
Unfortunately I think the heaviest concrete has left the house and not sure how I would have weighed it. Weighing or counting stuff hard to know what's best as I've also got rid of loads of shampoo samples which don't weigh very much.
More decluttering done
