Looks like you and your family are making real good progress in France Mrs Salad Dodger. Has all the clearing out got to be done by a certain date?. If so will that be achievable now you have made so much progress?. Hope so because you all seem to have worked so hard sorting through everything.:)

Edwink, well done on your decluttering :) every item counts & takes a weight off your shoulders & your mind :rotfl:

We are signing the papers on Friday, but the new owners to be have agreed we can stay for another month :) So what isn’t sold will be taken to Tip or if large pieces of furniture remain they may be stored with our local farmer friend :T

What is that saying - ‘I am sure it will come out in the wash’ :rotfl:

Will report later on items out :)

Magnificent effort Mrs SD. After all your hard work at home, your heart must have plummeted when you saw the task awaiting you in France, but I'm pleased to hear that your DSis is right on board and you're making progress. :T
U_u, I am well impressed :j Decluttering externally as well as internally :j

Thanks :). It's something I've done now and again since DD was small. She is 13 now and would be embarrassed at Mum's weird habits :D, except for 2 things - 1. the recent surge in interest about the impact globally of litter, especially plastics, and 2. our village has entered the Keep Scotland Beautiful competition for the first time, so (for once) I'm not the only person wandering around doing odd things in public . There are work parties, but they also want to hear evidence of people just doing stuff on their own, hence why I'm now keeping a tally of the outside clearing-up too. It's an ongoing activity as we're on the coast so there's always stuff washing up or being blown in.

...may I join in? I've read my way through the whole thread and am inspired by you all.

For the first couple of months I combined a broken wrist with flu/post-flu. Couldn't do anything much - except look at the mess, which made me feel increasingly :wall: Now I'm recovered and something HAS to be done!

Trying to decide how to calculate the decluttering, I know I won't stick to logging individual items. If I try that way I'll give up, which I really don't want to do. Also it's difficult to decide if a bag of 25 tapes should be 1 item or 25, when a bag of plastic bottles is only 1 bag.

Soooooo... I've decided that I'll take the "weight off my shoulders" concept (sort of) literally and aim for 2018lbs in 2018! That's 144st 2lbs (I think).

So please may I play? I'll weigh what I'm decluttering before it leaves the house. Don't know if I'll manage the whole amount, but there are piles of books, clothes and a few household things like microwaves and furniture to go, so who knows?

If nothing else, it should be entertaining watching me try...:rotfl:

    Thanks for the welcome.

    Eeerrrmmm...

    I'll think of something...

Think I'm going to have to set up a few parameters. I'm not going to include day-to-day recycling (eg finish milk, wash bottle, recycle). But if, say, there's a bottle of wine that's been around for a while (it could happen! :rotfl: ) and I drink that - not on my own. Probably. - and recycle the bottle that'll count as declutter.

    Anyway, first batch of stuff:
    Dyson (freegled) 16lbs
    A4 card (freegled) 3.5lbs
    A4 paper (freegled) 2lbs
Bag of assorted rubbish (broken stuff I was keeping etc) 2.5lbs
Old cassettes and back-up CDs 2lbs (Kept some as I do use my son's old ghetto blaster)

Make that a total of 26lbs. Not good with numbers, but think that means if I can average about 8lbs/day to the end of the year, I might make it! :D
