  • Hi everyone and well done to all. I'm impressed by the progress and how motivated you all are. :THaven't been here since end of July - it's been an eventful summer chez u-unicorns - I'll bring you up to speed in a separate post with my numbers.

:hello::hello:Welcome to all the new declutterers - one of you said it's addictive, and I quite agree. We now can't throw something out until we find the LIST. :rotfl:

Also delighted to see the litter-pickers amongst you, great to see you had company Mrs SD. Little and often does make a difference. I closed my litter totals on 10th August when we were visited by the Beautiful Scotland judges (55 carrier-bag-fulls, 3 big bin-bagfulls and 21 glass bottles) and fantastic efforts were made by others in clearing out, tidying up, weeding, planting and painting. The judges were suitably impressed, and awarded a Gold medal. :j:jNeedless to say, everyone is thrilled and excited, and enthused to keep going for next year.

Hi unclutter unicorn! Maybe we should start a litter pickers thread?
  • :
1882 School shirt from last year - ragbags.

    Hi all,

Well, summer has been unusually eventful (in good ways), and it has caused us to go a little backwards in our efforts. (I like to deal with things one at a time, and allow plenty of recovery time ! :) ) Y'see, normally we take our summer holidays together in temperate climes not too far from home, not least 'cos it suits the dog. This year, the him-of-the-house thought he would like to go off on his bike, so DD and I decided to go to Spain for a week. Now, this meant that we actually had to buy a summer wardrobe for the first time in years, while my DH had to purchase some new / upgraded camping equipment. I have also finished my OU degree (yay), and was planning to apply for post-grad training next year, however unexpectedly a job opportunity came up in the sector I wish to move to - well, it would be silly not to apply for the experience .... and I was offered the job.:). It's all grand and exciting, but I've a lot to finish in my present job before leaving on Friday:eek: The new job is extra hours pw although termtime only, so we have to sort out new house routines, and I still feel a bit overwhelmed with 'stuff'. Plus new school uniform and outfits for graduation ceremony - we are decluttering a horrific amount of cash. . Still, it's all progress and we'll all just get our heads down and get on with it :).

    So on that note..... :D

Hi Rose. :) I did wonder if there were enough of us to make it worth keeping track of our efforts separately? Might be helpful as well to collate information on the different initiatives around all our areas (and to keep up motivation in the face of monsoon weather today :( ).
  • Hello,
Now I'm sure I've visited you before, I don't know if it was earlier this year, or even last year! Either way I fell off the wagon and have more "stuff" than ever! So hopefully you will have me back, I promise to try harder... ;)

I recently bought 2 new wardrobes second hand, beautiful vintage ones, but the sheer size of the things mean that I have had to 'lose' some of the old furniture which had seen better days (the wardrobe was from the set my parents got when they were expecting me!). Right now there is just stuff everywhere and it's getting depressing, and coming up to the busiest time of year for me as an artist I really need to do something about it.

So I am going to pledge to you 500 items by mid Nov ready for the Christmas rush, I know it's not long but I need to do this!

1 - big bag of shabby clothes to be recycled.
2 - bag of clothes CS
3 - bag of shoes - CS (< amazing given my shoe obsession but I just don't wear them...)
4 - spares from jewellery - CS (you know when a pair of earrings you want comes in a pack of 3 but you only want the one...)
5 - box of harry potter books - CS - or the phone box library
    6 - bag of bags - CS
7 - unwanted gifts - brownies tombola donations
8 - craft items destashed on FB
    9 - cardigans - passed onto sis
    10 - trio of boxes - CS
anything's possible if you've got enough nerve

DundeeDoll, another tidy drawer - how many is that?

DH glued in the shed floor edging today, as well as helping me with the tops of the wardrobes clearance & doing more garage tidying. DSis is feeling a lot better today.

Re my three mantras: aired & made bed; washed up; worktops washed down; filled sugar bowl; dusted & polished TV table; relocated my suitcase (containing hand luggage case & 2 motorcycle pannier bags) from the Dining room to the cleared top of the wardrobe; general tidying

All the paintings/pictures have been cleaned & numbers follow with the day to day decluttering numbers

C601 - C603 Non recyclable - Old suitcase divider, broken hold all bottom & broken hand luggage bag (to be filled) - for the Tip
    C604 - C606 Tin can, two milk cartons - Rinsed & recycled
C607 Non recyclable - plastic bottle - binned
    C608 - C609 Newspaper, leaflets- recycled
C610 - C619 Three framed paintings/prints (Salvador Dali - Ma Femme Nue, Gabriel Ferrier - Paul & Virginia, picture of Mullion Bay in Cornwall), two multi-photo frames, ladies wide brimmed straw hat, large black shoulder bag, large lightweight grey shoulder bag/hold-all, quality lockable suit carrier, set of three circular boxes shaped & decorated like a snowman - CS bag

I have kept one print - a version of Starry Night by Van Gogh - which I will hang in our bedroom & 2 paintings have been kept to be valued - fingers crossed 🤞

Need another project now :( but at least I have plenty to chose from :rotfl:

May your decluttering mojo continue to be strong :rotfl:

  • For the cs:
    -various unused candles
    -a plastic container
-some baking things and kitchen items.

Also I binned a huge quantity of photos,at least 500 I would say and have kept the 'good' ones ie in focus ones.So my photo box has been completely decluttered.
  • Mrs SD, we just love Starry Night, too. In the bottom corner DH and I can just be seen!
Thanks to you all for the great posts while I have been away from the screen. I have forgotten my total but am going to start at 330 and post in tens and new trick - if I find one object to go I look for a pair .
    So , here we are
332 two bags of books to CS(about 16-18)
334 two fancy plates to CS
336 pair of slippers to bin ( yes , I know, but two objects.)
338 two small bags of samples I will never use up to CS for freebies.
340 two worn towels to rag recyc.
Welcome to all the new declutterers, and especially to Irish Rose. Very sad to see to see the Primark store fire .I remember it well and also when it was The Bank Buildings.
Marmite, I wish I had your emotional energy. I have started on the photos many times but never get very far.
Off into the garden. September is when I think we are getting ahead of nature.
