I bought a similar looking A/C unit from B+Q a few years ago. AFAIK it doesn't collect water or need emptying. Not sure why this one does?

Where do you spray the can? Does it get rid of the mildewy type smell you get after not using the A/C for long periods of time?

These sorts of systems are pretty good but are usually heavy and noisey. We had one at work but it annoyed some people so was never on. They are slightly flawed in design because the air is only going in one direction.
If you have the money, then maybe get one that exchanges the air in both directions like the commercial systems do. They normally have the unit placed outside or have some sort of extra bit with two pipes going outside.0 -

Yes it gets rid of those smells, to use it you make sure all the windows are up, put on the air con with the all vents open and make sure re-circulation switch is on, put can on back footwell and press down, the can stays spraying this stuff out for about 5 mins, keep the air con running for about 5 mins after the mist has gone, jobs a good un0 -
Split type air conditioners- the fan unit high on the wall inside and the compressor unit outside joined by two copper pipes thru the wall start at 179 euros for heating and cooling.......ok a cheap chinese brand but with Hitachi compressor unit......but that is here in Spain.....thats approx 120 pounds........why are they so expensive in the uk?......shipping to the uk in bulk, say 50,would only put 10 pounds on the price................interested parties should reply quickly...........Political?....I dont do Political....well,not much!0

Just bought one from Homebase and its as described above, They are slightly noisy and are heavy (37kg) but they do work (all air conditioners produce water so they either dump in into a tank or dump it outside via a pipe) Just for info you can buy one of the permanent fitted types (Fan unit inside with compressor outside) in Turkey for under £100, They even fit it for you for that price, So I dont know why thye cost so much here in UK (Rip off Britain ?)0

....so go to Turkey and gobble one up then!Just because you used to be you think everybody else is, don't you?0 -
Expensive in the UK because we don't really need them, so there's a lack of demand. Maybe it gets uncomfortable for a few weeks per year, but that's about all. In other countries they are more or less a requirement. They use them so much in Japan that they are trying to convince office workers to dress down in summer to help the environment.0

Bought one of these units yesterday... taking it back today.
Its useless - it just seems to shift slightly colder air around.
It doesn't cool the air at all!
I'll go to B&Q and get the one I originally wanted (and use at work) that works.0 -
Two (hopefully not daft) questions please.
1- Given that the Air Con. is so loud and would be unreasonable to sleep whilst running, I take it you could chill your room down before you sleep and then have a comfortable night without the Air Con. off & window closed? Or would the room heat up itself quickly as soon as you turned the Air. Con. off?
2 - Given these vent outside a window will the very act of opening the window wide not let hot, humid air in cancelling out the cooling effect of the Air Con. in the room.
