Homebase is doing 3 days where everything is 10% off.
One of the special offers in a 900BTU air conditioner for £135. Not only is it a nice model with digital controls but is also rated A for enery efficiency
Homebase said that even if they run out of stock, if the air conditioner is purchased today, you still get it at the special price (although you do have to go back to pick it up when it is stock)

Shouldn't that be 9000 BTU? 900 sounds a bit low!

I've got that 9000BTU A/C unit at my home/office. Purchased last year at a similar price (discount and 10% off day).
On the whole a good unit, but it does have a number of downsides:
Like all A/C it needs venting out of a window (flexi hose and u-bit supplied), however the flexi-hose is short and the U-bit falls off easily so it's difficult to vent effectively without having a window wide open.
It's noisy, not the sort of thing you can gently go off to sleep with, and doesn't have a built in timer. But it does chuck out a large quantity of cold air and happily kept a 12ft square room nicely cool despite bright sunshine, and a heap of power hungry computers doing their best to counteract it.
Overall recommended, but you do need to give serious consideration if you can live with the noise / bulk and have a good plan of where to put it over winter. So probably more suitable for a home / office or knocking the humidity out of the air before bed time.
For domestic use you may be better off with a wall mounted unit that has the noisy bits firmly outside. Or giving careful consideration to the amount of light and airflow in the house., before contributing to global warming!

On the site it quotes £179 and says its not available instore. Am I missing something?:heart2:I have a child with autism.:heart2:0

The model I bought today says that it has a 12 hour timer.
Whilst the web site says it is only available in store, the store I visited had this model plus the more expensive 12000BTU one.
The wall mounted air cons are a lot more expensive (B&Q has a fit your own one for around £450 if think)

that's always the thing that puts me off air conditioner units for home use. As you say, ok in an office, but I've never found one that you could use in a bedroom (which is probably where most people would want to use it) that doesn't sound like you're trying to sleep on the runway of an airport!0 -
The 1 - 12 hour timer will be like the "sleep" timers you get on TVs - i.e. after 1 to 12 hours, the a/c will switch off. What would be nice on these portable a/c's is some sort of thermostatic control.

Oooh... just noticed it has a "Full water indicator" - what's that about? Surely a proper a/c unit doesn't need one of those?
