I got this from homebase last year when it was at the same price. I had it in the bedroom, it was too noisey even on the lowest setting to sleep and had the same problems mentioned above, hose was too short, L shape vent falls off etc. I returned the unit for a refund, if i bought again I would consider one with a remote control. The unit does cool really well tho and is cheap.
It dries the air, dehumidifies.
3 operating modes: cool, dry and fan.0 -
Oooh... just noticed it has a "Full water indicator" - what's that about? Surely a proper a/c unit doesn't need one of those? Thanks to all who post constructively.

A bit concerned about the water indicator. Some units cool the air by introducing water vapour and are therefore not air-con units; these tend to be noisy and not as good as air-con units. Naive question but is it definately an air-con unit as opposed to water cooler (not the drinking type)?"Success is not to be measured by the position someone has reached in life, but the obstacles he has overcome while trying to succeed." Air conditioners usually produce a fair quantity of water - it is condensed out of the air so they tend to dry the air as well as cool it. This is why they are good in cars for reducing misting and there is usually a puddle of water under the car after using the aircon.0

The timer can also be used to set the air con to come on upto 12 hours in advance.
There is a thermostat in that you set the temperature you want the unit to cool down to (min 16)
As someone else mentioned proper air conditioners always produce water.
I tried one of the air coolers that work by blowing air through a wet cloth but didn't find that they worked well and returned it - a proper air con actually cools the air.
Whilst it is noisy I want the air con for use during the day when the temp is higher

If you have a car air conditioner its worth disenfecting the system once a year you can do it easily yourself halfords sell the stuff for £12 in a can you just let the can off and leave the air con running for 20 mins , job done0

I think Legionnaires' Disease is related to water cooled air conditioners in large buildings with cooling towers.
The noise is a problem but I find precooling the bedroom, for example, a reasonable compromise.
The short hose is also a problem but log flexible hose can be purchased quite cheaply and attached with a bit of ingenuity0 -
Car air conditioners can also breed disease but its not a very known fact for the sake or £12 a year its well worth it, also makes your car smell like new0
