What cashback/reward card? We need to be able to download transactions in excel

Hello

I am looking for some advice. We are currently using a capital one credit card for Day to Day transactions as it was previously a good cashback Card (although the cashback % has been slashed since we got the card!)

We keep track of our finances and plan our budget using a spreadsheet and update ‘actual’ spend by downloading the transactions from our various bank accounts each month. Including this credit card.

Recently Capital One have refreshed their website and removed the function to download transactions - very annoying!!

I am thinking of switching, maybe to an M&S or Sainsbury’s Card. Can anyone advise on whether it is straightforward to download transactions on these accounts/cards please?

Thanks.

    Sainsbury's don't support this, don't know about M&S - sorry.

Amex Platinum credit card offers good cashback and allows export to Excel (and other formats). You'll need another card as backup for places that don't accept.

They've been teasing punters with their new-look website for a few months. My account doesn't have access it to yet?

Can't you copy transactions from Capital One's website and paste them in to your spreadsheet?

We have a NatWest Reward credit card (1% cashback in supermarkets, 0.5% everywhere else) - it offers data export in standard formats.

Can't you just copy and paste them over from the website? Maybe one column at a time to fit it into the format you want?

The capital one website removing the statements data download is a real annoyance. I am now looking for alternative which does allow for export of data because accounts which do not allow this just take too long to keep track of (I use MS money).

You can't really just copy and paste the data from the PDF, it needs to be in a specific format to import into financial packages.

I know Tesco's credit card does do this as I have one already. Probably the best credit card and online experience for a card I have is Barclays which allows downloading in all sorts of formats.

OP states using a spreadsheet. Depending on what spreadsheet & what version, some allow you to import data from various sources including websites, so it may be possible to continue.

Has the OP contacted Capital One to query. It could be the functionality is there, just the link to download been removed in the redesign.
  • You don’t “need”to download transactions in excel. Just manually enter them?
