You don’t “need”to download transactions in excel. Just manually enter them?
OP is manually entering them, but downloading statement data to verify transactions. I suppose they could manually reconcile the data.

Marks and Spencer credit card - no transaction download functionality whatsoever that I can find

Nationwide credit card (cashback) - recent transactions can be downloaded, but not anything on a statement. So if I remember to log in and download just before the statement is produced than that gets most of the transactions

AA credit card (I got this just for a joining cashback bonus) does have download functionality for both recent transactions and previous statements
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)

Nationwide allows download of all data, recent transactions and statement data for all accounts. I use this all the time.

Barclaycard (Hilton Honours card) also does.

You can of course manually enter the data in excel or other formats but downloading them saves loads of time. I could convert a pdf statement into excel format and then probably convert the excel or csv format into ofx format, but absolute pain.... the facility was there.... so much quicker and easier to download lol
    Titch :)
