This seems like a good idea. It is impractical to get rid of 3 items a day that need binning. But I am going to try three things each bin day.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.
  • Just though l would check in. Decluttering is going well but slow as when lve found something worth selling lve listed it. Managed to sell quite a bit with some to finish next few days. I've listed them all under buy it now with a price set that l'm happy to see them go. If they don't make that price then l will keep them for the time being.

  • Hi all... Just wanted to say found the thread through the e-mail, so glad I did!
It's brill to see all the enthusiasm going on in here.. I started decluttering just after Xmas and have done quite well..
I sent a huge bag to my local homeless shelter, they also accept towels, bedding, kitchen goods (ie: pots & pans) as they help relocate and house peeps too..
The open door (a similar shelter, offering meals/showers) also takes food goods (my neighbour donated his whole kitchens worth when he relocated back home!!)
    They were so very grateful..
Perhaps we could add this option to the list of places to donate?
    :)

    Hello

I have been terrible at updating on here, but most of the items i have listed on eBay have sold, so a bit of decluttering has happened. what has not sold by the time it next finishes on eBay will be going to the charity shop.

Tomorrow I am going to start decluttering my book shelves. I have books related to procurement qualifications I took which I no longer need, but they are old, so are no use to anyone else, so I will recycle those.

    I hope everyone is well.

  • Evening all,
Lots of sorting but not much decluttering as the majority has gone into the carboot pile. Roll on carboot season so I can finally declutter from the house and hopefully make some money for debt slaying.

Also have practically a full wardrobe of clothes to photograph and place for sale on Spock/ fleabay so need to start conquering

Just found your thread (and what an inspiring lot you are) - maybe I will be motivated too.
But what I really wanted to say that I have just helped move my Aunt into a care home. This is a determined, mentally competent but physically frail lady who occupied a small 2-bedroomed flat.
Having decided last year to go into care this year, did she start selecting & decluttering ? Did she heck !
Last Wednesday, I spent the day with her STARTING the sorting process. On Sunday, the day before the move, hubby & I spent 8 hrs between us helping her sort out, cull and decide.
Monday, there were 5 family members helping at both ends of the move plus 3 removal men (who incidentally, in their zeal packed not only stuff marked for a local hospice, but also the contents of the shredder bin !!)
There were enough ornaments she wanted to take to fill all the surfaces with no spaces between. There are still boxes on the floor to go through and although we all felt that the 'quart into a pint pot' was magnificently achieved, I fear she will still be discovering locations for many weeks.

We all felt we should not inflict that on our own relatives if the time comes. A full life does indeed include many memories through books, albums, etc, but if you're realistically never going to read it, fit into it, look at it & so on - then get rid of it !

Here endeth the proselytising lesson - I hope you didn't mind me sharing it but it seemed appropriate.

Glad you are joining us. Thank you for sharing - that is certainly food for thought for us all none of us ever know what is around the corner.

Hope your Aunt settles well in her new home.
