I am no lawyer, but I think the 90 days CAR is considered to fall under the heading of a "service", whilst the 12 m period is a "warranty".

Service is to do with the fact that they will collect and return ion that 90 day period.

Warranty is to do with the fact that they are liable for the defects. I dont think the fact that there is a service agreement for 90 days counts as an otherwise stated.

An example of "otherwise stated" is the bit about spare parts being only guaranteed for 90 days from delivery or for 1 year from delivery, whichever is the earlier. See what i mean?

I think that it is clear, that dell will foot the cost of replacing things within 12 months. However it unclear as to who will pay for the carriage if you have a defect.

So there is still a grey area on the PROCEDURE of what happens when it goes wrong outside of 90 days, although dell accept ultimate liability.

Someone correct me if i'm worng.

I guess if you are still unsure you could call dell and they would clear things up?
its pretty hard to drown a goldfish.

Does anyone know if the Celeron processor in the motherboard of the D06302a Dimension 3000 could be upgraded to a P4, faster celeron or even a faster AMD processor in a few years when they are dirt cheap? Is the difference between the Celeron and the Pentium drastic? I mean what is the difference in terms of performance? I can see the cache is smaller (256 as opposed to 1mb) but as Neither machine has graphics card and I wouldnt be using for heavy games requirements Im wondering just how much difference would be noticed eg on dvd playback. I have an old Voodoo3 PCI 16mb I could use too. thanks for any info

Ok so no AMD/Intel compatibility, I should have known that! The comparison charts are interesting, seems that the difference isnt much when it comes down to everyday stuff. But does anyone here know if you could fit a P4 to the motherboard? I assume you can as Dell use the same components ie Motherboard in the Dimension 3000? Reason I ask is that usually a few years down the road the older processors can be had very cheaply at places like Cex
  • its not as straight forward as that.

First off, do they have the same FSB.
If not , then new memory will be required.

are the boards jumperless and the clock multiples done by the bios, or are there jumpers on it and you have to re-configure them to accept the new clock speed.

if your going down this road you need to now a bit about building systems.

Personally if i were you, id pay the extra bit and get the P4 now.
After all the cele in years to come will be worthless, and technology moves so fast , the generation of p4 for that board will be old hat.( and slow) in comparison to the chip of the day ( and the programs that will be used)

    Then theres 64bit operating systems?
