ok I have got it now, thanks

The system I am looking at is the code 1-D06302b for 504 with 3 year warranty.

However it doesnt include a modem. Do I need one?? at present my modem sits on top of the computer and was supplied with tiscali. Is that all I need.

Also the deal doesnt include sound card, is this needed?

And there is no mention of graphics card??

    Can you help?
    Nice to save.

    Inbuilt graphics and sound.

Are you on broadband, if so, then no need for a modem. If not, it sounds as if you have a usb modem, which means no modem needed.

Btw, change the 3 year warranty option to save money.

    Don't worry about a modem.

Just buy cheap modem from somewhere else and if you're afraid about opening the computer up just get a usb one.

what does the 90 day collect and return entail? are you still covered for a year? Do you pay any money for them to collect and return?

Is it not worth getting the 3 year?

Do you know if it is a premium helpline thet they provide?
    Nice to save.

90 day collect and return is exactly that, if anything goes wrong within 90 days they'll collect and return to you. Other than that you are covered by a year's warranty, but you would be out the expense of returning the pc.

Personally I don't think it's worth getting a 3 year. PC's are quite reliable. Also they'll probably ring you offering an extended warranty, which may be cheaper than taking it out initially, especially if you're prepared to haggle.

This machine does not come with a separate graphics card - it uses in-built graphics on the motherboard. It will be suitable for playing simple games, and probably for watching DVDs if you select a DVD drive as an option.

It won't be any good for playing more modern games (like Half-Life2 say) - if you want to do that you will need to buy a graphics card and install it yourself. Not a particularly difficult task, but scary for some people if they haven't done it before.

And these machines only have PCI slots so you need a PCI graphics card which are becoming harder to source, but which can be found for about £35+del if you shop around.

    Still a great machine though.

Anyone familar with the "sales of goods act", regarding statutory rights to the quality of goods and services?

    http://www.dti.gov.uk/ccp/topics1/facts/salegoodsact.htm

    Couple of noteworthy things.
    • If repair and replacement are not possible or too costly, then the consumer can seek a partial refund, if they have had some benefit from the good, or a full refund if the fault/s have meant they have enjoyed no benefit
    • In general, the onus is on all purchasers to prove the goods did not conform to contract (e.g. was inherently faulty) and should have reasonably lasted until this point in time (i.e. perishable goods do not last for six years).

    • If a consumer chooses to request a repair or replacement, then for the first six months after purchase it will be for the retailer to prove the goods did conform to contract (e.g. were not inherently faulty)

    • After six months and until the end of the six years, it is for the consumer to prove the lack of conformity.
