    Which service option did you go for? Do you know much about the 90day service option? Are you covered beyond that point? And do you know if it is a premium support line?

    The 90 days is exactly that...a 90 day cover. If you want any cover after 90 days you will have to rely on your statutory rights and consumer law.

    There seem to be very differing views on this warranty here. Many people seem to think that after the 90 days they are still covered but have to pay to send the PC back. Some people claim that they have apparently received this information from Dell.

    Don't understand this at all. Checked it first thing this morning price came up at £328 having changed the warranty. Tried again at work at lunchtime (as a colleague wants to buy it) and the price was £410 after I had changed the warranty. Just tried again and the price is now showing as £328. Maybe I entered the wrong code at lunchtime.

    Fingers crossed that I can get the lower price on Tuesday and they still have some in stock!

    Dell will always have stock as they assemble to order; the only reason these PC's are so well priced is because the code you are inputting is lifted from the small business section of the site, hence the 'no speakers' and 'no modem' automatic selection. The 90 day warranty is in respect of the 2400, the 3000 and the inspiron 2200...currently the other systems are 12 months CAR.There is an option to increase the 90 day cover to a full 12 months for around £29...by selecting the 90 cover you are agreeing to 90 days...which is why any other claim is down to statutory rights and consumer law. More often than not a PC wil fail in the first couple of weeks use so you should be okay...but I'd buy it on my credit card if I was you.

    ok i just got a pdf from dell telling me exactly what I am getting for my 410 squids (inclusive of VAT). I have pasted it below word for word.

    NB it includes both of the following:
    - 90 Day CAR (Collect and Return)
    - Base Warranty

    ALSO, the terms and conditions state that dell guarantees that all its products will be free from defects for 12m from date of delivery. If it is defective, dell will replace it. I am happy with that undertaking! As you say, if something goes wrong it will go wrong pretty quickly. (After that its just bad luck. :confused: ).

    Also, chasing things up on the basis of rights which are implied into a contract by statute can involve a lot of letter writing and legal jargon. I know that these statutes are their to protect consumers (and retailers in some cases), but i think its always best to rely on the terms and conditions which are unequivocal.

    So, here is a direct quote from the terms and conditions:
    Unless otherwise stated, Dell guarantees to you that Dell-branded Products will be free from defects for 12 months from delivery and spare parts for 90 days from installation or delivery date, whichever is the earlier. Should Product be defective within this period, Dell will repair or replace Product within a reasonable time. All reasonable care and
    endeavour shall be used to resolve problems within a realistic period in the circumstances.

    having watched they way dell prices have moved for the last 12 months or so, I think this has been the best deal, taking the following points into consideration:

    - most of their special deals only give a 15" flat panel upgrade, not 17"
    - their double memory upgrades normally take you from 256 to 512, but this time its from 512 to 1024
    - i do not want one of dell's OEM printers!
    - its a pentium, not celeron
    - their deals dont normally stretch to 160 GB HDD, normally its only 80

    I am planning to rip out the floppy from an old PC and whack that into the new one (saving about 23 quid on dell's price).

    OK enough from me. I need to do some revision!

    You might need to get your hands on a floppy drive bracket if you want to put your old one in,from what i know it wont have any bracket to hold a floppy.

    But does the 90-day CAR mean that this is an "otherwise stated" example.

    I am still not totally convinced yet. I can't afford to spend all this money on a PC only for it to go "bang" after 4 months.

    To be honest, I'm not entirely sure what you mean - Apparently its meant to have a 3.5" bay, but I guess you are talking about some gizmo to make the drive fit snugly?
