not a valid reason for divorce in uk law :-) let's not be silly!

I’ve known people to divorce for less.

I hope you have enjoyed your christmas stirring but kindy suggest it's better suited to the pudding bowl.

My lovely wife who shares my surname did offer to buy me a big spoon. I was a bit concerned where she would stock it so I declined.
  • Honestly I'm not. If she really wants to keep it that up to her, I just find it odd that she wouldn't consider it.

Someone summed it up best when they said its like being part of a team with a team name ( no I'm not taking hers for the 432nd time! ). Bad analogy but best I can do.....Here's the current Chelsea team and Gary Cahill. Hes still part of the team but why is he referred to differently? Is he not part of the team then? Is he 'on loan'? etc etc.

Did make me realise that theres no point in having a marriage but just continue as we are. Finances and future finances are already sorted so apart from a few tax breaks etc....

Question, have you considered taking hers?

You're a team already. Being married makes it a team in the eyes of the law. If you want to be a team with the same name, that's fine, but why does it have to be your name? No-one has given me a good reason for this. In fact, no-one has given me a reason beyond 'it's tradition'.

Tradition is the only answer that is required. You can go along with it or rebel the choice is yours.

I've never heard that sentiment before:eek:

What is the highest honour he has from being married to her?

That she agreed to marry him of course...she could have said sod off.:D

So, having the same surname didn't appear to significantly benefit their relationships then...

My own mother got very confused when I didn't take my husband's name, and for years she sent anniversary and Christmas cards addressed to my husband and his first wife. Now she just calls me by my sister's daughter's or dog's name - I give up. Our family is strange.

    no sherry just cider ;-)

Post 24 does not answer the question at all. You only need to please 2 people when you get married, yourself and your OH. If tradition and what happened in your parents' era is so important to you all you had to do was pop down to the local registry office and bish, bash bosh, you could have been married in less than an hour before starting a family.
