But don't feel I can change my title to that in case people came to the conclusion it meant I was transitioning from one sex to another (as I was born in a female body - and am okay about staying that way). Maybe that sort of connotation will have gone in 10 years time/I'm guessing it will almost certainly have gone in 20 years time (but by that time I'll be that old/nearly in the "departure lounge" that I won't care personally).
Ah thanks, that makes sense . . . I always thought it was for transgender people & couldn't work out why it was needed. I guess it's like I hate to be 'Miss' or 'Mrs' and people knowing if married or not? I wish they'd just scrap titles unless a Dr!0 -

As my father was illegitimate he had his mother's name so I do as well - something I'm quite pleased about.0 -
I have had a birth name, an adoptive name and a married name. I like my married name and that is who I am now

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
I think theres no higher honour than taking a mans surname after marriage... HOWEVER.... if he had got a vile surname like Boggs, Cockburn or Pratt i would stick to the surname i have.
I've never heard that sentiment before:eek:
What is the highest honour he has from being married to her?0 -
This is probably the most common reason of all for women to not change their name; I'd have to change the name on my trucks:D
Seriously OP it's very common for a woman to not change her name these days. Hell would freeze over before I changed mine.
An unusual "hassle factor" :rotfl: - but a valid one.
I can certainly see that there would be quite a bit of hassle for a woman to tell all and sundry "BTW my name isnt my name any more". In this day and age - there'd be all sorts of people and all sorts of official "bodies" one would have to tell.
But, the man on the other hand, wouldnt have to tell anyone anything. He'd get off scot-free from having all that hassle (as well as the explaining that "I'm the person that did/does so-and-so of note").0 -
I'm older than you. I don't have those assumptions. I think the generational thing doesn't particularly hold water for your age group. Tradition, yes. Being disappointed, nope.
Indeed, me too. A generation that saw most change through feminism. And yet he wants her to take his name as what... a sign of possession? What other reason can there be?2021 GC £1365.71/ £24000 -
Yes I will insist on a tattoo too as well as the t shirt
People who are reading far to much into this really need to go enjoy Christmas.0 -

More like a sign of a loving relationship.0
