    ..........................
  • From what I've been told the minimum hours per week is 20.

Did you have the interview yesterday?

Would you say from the e-mail I received, on the previous page at the bottom I don't have a job? Because it doesn't make it 100% clear.

I would post a link if I was allowed but I can't due to being a new member but here is a quote from an official job centre website:

    "Jobseeker's Allowance

Jobseeker’s Allowance is the main benefit for people of working age who are out of work or work less than 16 hours a week on average. If you're eligible, it is paid while you're looking for work. Find out more information including how to apply online.
    Who can get Jobseeker's Allowance?

To get Jobseeker's Allowance you must be:

    * available for and actively seeking work
    * between 18 and State Pension age
    * working less than 16 hours per week on average

Jobseeker's Allowance isn't normally paid to 16 or 17 year olds, except in special cases.

If you’re a man aged 60 to 64, you may be better off claiming Pension Credit. Contact Jobcentre Plus for advice."

This might be useful as I see you got the from direct gov.

Okay this is the situation I was in...
I was getting JSA contribution based.
I got my training with Teletech and it worked out at 15hrs a week. The week the training ended I had problems which meant I had to leave. After the end of the tax year (April) 2009 I got a letter, to anyone who receives one it's quite scary!

I guessed this must be about Teletech so I took along the payslips. I was totally honest and explained that I was under the impression that working under 16 hours a week was allowed. They had details from Teletech and we went down the route of 'Is this your signature for JSA?', which of course it was. I found to my horror that it was not!

The JSA that I'd received for that period I had to pay back. Weeks later a letter arrived telling me that there was a 30% penalty automatically added! For anyone this is not negotiable and the people have NO discretion on it or the repayments at all. What I would say is the the JC people were very pleasant but appealing would be pointless.
Now if you are getting JSA income based you might be okay but there again you cannot and must not do anything without telling the JC. That even applies to further education too.

I attended the job offer on Monday night and got the email saying welcome etc. Also got two emails from Belfast Office, one saying that paperwork etc will be out very shortly and that I would be getting an email requesting my referee details. I also got an email showing my working schedule. then today I got another email from Belfast saying there is a slight delay in sending the paperwork out but that should be sorted shortly. My second email today came from the talent acqusistion team saying they ae sorry but the position I have applied for is now closed etc etc- yet it is still being advertised on their website. So now I dont know if I am being offered the job or not- very frustraing

  • BTW it goes through an 0800 free number so Skype is good to use. That'll leave your phone line free. After training though you'll be using your phone line as you get a phone with headset sent to you.

Well done, looks like you've got it.

If you are the Scottish man who was in the same group as me and a woman 'Sue', then I remember you and what you said. Both of you had better things to say than I did. I am not suprised I didn't get in, mainly due to lack of experience in dealing with customers I would presume.

I am going to wait and see what happens because some people may drop out for whatever reason and TeleTech might get back to me...you never know. Other than that looks like it's back to square one for the second time in two months.

    Best of luck.

I think you will find this is not the case.

I have worked before while claiming JSA under 16 hours and still got my normal job seekers. As long as it is under 16 hours and less than a certain pay per week it is okay - I think it is around £80 a week but it might have changed.

I have been told by 3 different people including Jobcentre plus staff that working or studying or being self employed 15 hours under WILL not effect your benefits unless your earnings are thousands of pounds a week. Unless they all lying to me.

Well I'd dearly like you to show me a link to somewhere that says that. Do you know how it felt to get a letter telling me I was to attend an 'under caution' interview and I worked the hours you are mentioning and only for 5 weeks? To be treated like a criminal in a JC central office and I was totally open and even said what you are saying here.

They say you can't appeal but you should go to a tribunal and fight your case with them a******s

I just got the following e-mail saying I didn't get a job, but she did say some of us will get two e-mails I think.

"Thank you for your interest in TeleTech and for taking the time to submit an application for our TeleTech@Home Customer Service Agent opportunity.

We were very fortunate to have a number of qualified applicants apply for this opportunity, which made the selection process difficult. Although we were impressed with your skills and experience, we will be pursuing other applicants at this time.

Your interest in TeleTech@Home is greatly appreciated. Best wishes in your career search! Please feel free to visit us at anytime at

yeah it doesn't make it clear I got the other one mate. I booked myself into a meeting tomorrow for a run down on what we require.
  • Okay hot off the 'check up' regarding JSA and working (grey area) obtained from the nice lady at a JC who knows the rules after 20 years there.

    1. You MUST tell the JC that you are working or going to work.
    2. You have to show them how much you are getting (and they will want to see the payslips).
    3. Over 16 hours means NO JSA.

Right to the 'grey' area. The 1st £10 earned will probably be ignored and this might be slightly increased if you have a partner who is also out of work. After this you will lose pound for pound of income to JSA. In other words if you get paid £75 you will NOT get JSA as the £64.50 will have been used up as a single person or with someone working. That means that if you work 15 hours for TT you will probably not get any JSA.

If as me whilst honest about it at an under caution interview but did not tell the JC at the time they will want the JSA for all the weeks worked back and add a 30% penalty. If you do not tell, by default at the end of the year they'll check the usage of the NI number (wich you have to give to TT anyway). As was said to me that say I got £15 (which I never did!) an hour did I really think I could get JSA paid as well?
