  • Muppet - great picture - thank you! What variety are your existing hens?

Haribo - I'm regretting polishing off the cooking sherry, now. It would be good as an anaesthetic (or back rub :p  ).

Blairweech       on your and OH behalf. Best wishes for Friday.

Aussie - yes that is Darcy (doesn't look like CM picked up on your post  )

    Anyone want a piglet?

  • Afternoon all,

Have been reading for a while but not posting too much. Have just had a successful shop - lovely thick long cardi/ jacket from Next in a dark green - £3.99 from the charity shop and two Mason Cash pie dishes for £1.29 the pair. Also got 10lbs of pickling onions to do - some for us and some to sell.

Also have a new source of sales - my next door neighbours DD2 is on a dairy free and wheat free diet - and she doesn't have time to make anything for her. I have offered to bake lunchbox treats for the freezer - She's happy to pay - I will make some money and she will pay a lot less than the special stuff in the supoermarket. Ds1 is dairy free so I just need to tackle the wheat free. SIL is gluten free so I have some experience. Would be nice if this developed with a few more customers!

Dinner is easy - we had French friends over to watch the rugby with us on Sat and I did a big buffet - so there are lots of lovely leftovers. Tonight is quiche, salad and refried l/o scalloped potatoes.

Hugs to all who need them - these colds are horrid - ours have dragged on for ages!

Hi THRIFTMONSTER - good to hear from you. Good luck with the lunchbox treats; let's hope it does develop!

BLAIRWEECH - I'm glad you've got an appointment but you must be hopping mad that the doctor obviously didn't do anything. Let's hope things will look up after Friday's visit.

MUPPET - Oh, they're lovely chickens! You must keep us updated now you know how to put the pictures on!

Well, I was about to have a snooze when my friend from France called me on Skype, so that used up a lot of time and then OH phoned me because he needed some supplies collected for work tomorrow, so I have just sat back down again with a cuppa. Now, I don't know whether to have a nap or do some work - it's a terrible dilemma!

Managed to buy some brisket yesterday too:T so will have that later in the week and give it a try - Whats the best way to cook it? SC or oven?

After cooking brisket both methods, I prefer the SC version. I roasted a joint of brisket yesterdat, It was nice, but tough. Where as the SC, the meat just melts!

    afternoon.....

Job centre was delightful again:rolleyes: again the lady I see was not in (this has been six weeks now) I got there at 10.45 (my time is 11) by 11.20 no one had called me:confused: (I think they are supposed to hit targets and see you within a certain time limit?) again I had to ask what was happening? My lady was off sick (?) so others were covering - but no one had bothered to pick up my book since 10.45 - so no one was covering!!

There was, of course, about ten of them the other side of the room all had their heads in computers doing !!!!!! all! couldnt someone help out?? after I mentioned it to someone, a lady called me over, she said people should complain about it:rolleyes: (yeah right that will get me far:rolleyes: ) and I was really worried as I had to get back to pick DD up from nursery at 11.45!

When she asked what jobs I was looking for, I said "Well I could do hers, seeing as she's never in!!" :rotfl: :rotfl: she replied "nah you dont want that the moneys too cr*p :rotfl:

    beggars belief dont it!!:rotfl: :wall:

    Afternoon all,

Hope that everyone who is suffering cold or other ailment will feel better soon

Feeling quite good about myself to-day...three loads of washing done, mostly now draping airers around the house as it is drizzling most of the time, have put out towels and dishtowels, just feel that they need more airing than other things so will let them stay out until they dry naturally.

Have an experiment running in the kitchen at the moment...3 nightlights under my oldfashioned cafetiere on fondue base to see if I can have a real espresso now and then...OH laughed his head off so he will get none if he doesn't apologise!

Ladies with bumps, please take it easy...DD2 breezed through with DGD1 but is finding it tougher going this time, only 24 weeks and she has reduced her working pattern from 3 to 2 days a week...hope that she is resting and eating properly but as she is in London not much I can help with, hoping that she might stay until baby is born when she comes at Christmas but unlikely I think.

Chicken with stir-fry veg and noodles and whatever I make with the apples I stewed earlier...maybe just custard as I love it.

Please come back soon to all those missing...JackieO, PenPin, hugs

You can if you want to, but I didn't. And it was fine! I taken Pooky's advise over this, and it turned out lovely. And with the veg I added, and the liquid, I thickened it up, and blended for soup.

I chopped carrots, potato, parsnip & 1/2 an onion, place in sc
    Season with salt & pepper
Sit the joint on top of veg
Made up about 2pint of gravy, I used bisto granuals, added an oxo cube also.
Poured in the sc, so that the liquid 1/2 covered the joint.
Lid on, turned to low, 7-8 hrs later, it was ready!

I think next time I do brisket, I will SC it. And may add dumplings just before serving.

Not posted for a wee while but I'm back. Need some inspirational on the money saving front - holiday = done. New boiler = done, skint = done! :rotfl:
(Had no choice on the boiler as I couldn't get it fixed but at least it's a combi so I will save money on the bills). Hope is everyone is well and getting set for the winter/xmas. I like the winter. Snuggling up on the sofa, soups and stews and lovely parsnips. Bring on the snow! :lipsrseal
