Libf, someone else mentioned before about this and it's obvious if you think about it, I didn't either before I read it, it's a direct DEBIT, it's one way, so if you've got enough credit with them to pay the final bill, you can cancel the DD and any refund will be to your bank account via Bacs or whatever, it does seem that you have to keep checking though that they haven't reinstated it.
Yep, I already cancelled it once to avoid the Dec payment and they just started a new one for January, which I've also now cancelled. They billed me up until my switch date with an estimate that was higher than my opening reading with the new company and I'm still in credit, so they owe me.0 -

Unless I'm mistaken, didn't someone else also post that OFTM applies a charge for any failed DD collection attempt?
Of course, a consumer can cancel their DDI at any time, but should tell the supplier too.0 -
Do you need to keep the direct debit active to get a refund on credit after you've switched? I don't trust them not to take my January direct debit, but I do want the £40 that they owe me...Yep, I already cancelled it once to avoid the Dec payment and they just started a new one for January, which I've also now cancelled. If the supplier is having to reinstate the DDI, what does that tell you about the appropriateness of you cancelling it?
I suggest you discuss the matter with the supplier.
I know you probably won't, but I post this reply for the benefit of others who may be considering following your obviously bad decision here.0 -
If you've switched and the switch has completed then you're no longer a customer and your contract with them is terminated, you still obviously have to pay them any money you owe them when you eventually get the final bill, but you don't need the direct debit in place to do that, they have no right to take the monthly DD after you have switched, if they do then the Direct Debit guarantee comes into effect, unless someone knows different.0

The contract is ongoing until you pay the final bill
Or in the event the supplier owes you money, they pay you that money.
Or are you not intersted in any recovering any credit balance on your account? :cool:0 -
The issue is that most people do not know what the final account balance will be until the supplier raises the final bill.

They will bill you if they are unable to collect payment within 5 days of the due payment date.0 -
Has anybody else noticed that on the price rise email, the prices are actually written without VAT added, even though the table states that prices are inclusive of VAT. So looking at the table and naively assuming the figures include VAT, the price rise in January would actually be a price drop for me. Or was it just my email this was done?0

My switch completes on 27 December (hopefully!) but my next DD for OTM is due on 8 Jan. I have sufficient credit to take me to 27 December, assuming they don't refund the £100 I have asked for, so when should I cancel the DD, if at all? I don't want them taking another £58 in January "just because" the DD is activeWoohoohoohooooooooo0

I'm sure it would have just been your email.
OFTM write each email individually to each of their customers. They probably just made a mistake on yours.0 -

You should have cancelled it 2 months ago.0
