DavidatRowlands, you're similar to me except I've migrated from One Variable 6.0 to One Variable 8.0 to Fix'd 20 4.0 to Fix'd 20 6.0 to Fix'd 20 7.0 to Fix'd 20 9.0, however, did you receive any Eversmart bills or a final bill yet?

On 14 April I emailed MSE CEC as they incorrectly state that Outfox The Market fixed tariffs rollover to One Variable 5.0 (base your savings on this cost instead), however, they rollover to One Green Flex 2.0! On 20 April MSE replied that they would see if the default tariff can be amended to One Green Flex 2.0, but it hasn't been amended, I wonder why? Could it be that One Green Flex 2.0 just happens to be the cheapest tariff for most because it doesn't pay commission to comparison websites?
  • Clif, I think that you have hit the nail on the head with that one. AKA conflict of interest.

Annfield_East, MSE give excellent money saving tips, but as you say, CEC have a conflict of interest because they're in business to earn commission and the best energy provider (from personal experience) doesn't pay commission!

Clif, fair point. It was MSE who pointed me to OTM, All of their CEC commission paying partner suppliers were more expensive, even after cashback. Also, most levied a hefty early exit fee.

  • Hi all,

Well, I'm afraid I have a different story to tell about OFTM - I signed up for their duel fuel renewable energy tariff about two years ago now and, in terms of delivery the product, that's been fine of course. However, after a relatively short period of time they said they needed to increase the tariff due to my usage (ok, fair enough), and then after one year they bumped it up again.

However, during none of this time did they tell me about any cheaper tariffs (which I believe they're required to do, as per Citizen's Advice). It was only after discussing bills with a friend that I investigated further and found that I could have been paying £600 a year, as opposed to the £1,050 they were charging me.

So, yes I understand that they're a business, but to my mind they were significantly overcharging me. I've asked for all our correspondence and if I have a robust case will be reporting them to OfGem. Predictably enough, I wouldn't recommend touching them with a barge pole.

P.s. Clif - if you're not already in the pay of OFTM you should email them, you deserve some reward for all the advertising you're doing...

Nah - Cliffs posts have made me (a happy customer of OFTM) far more sceptical of the company and the depths they will stoop to in order to try and get some decent PR.

    Which tariff were you on?

Do you really mean that they changed your tariff, or that they changed your DD payment?
The tariff (price per kWh and standing charge) should not have changed as long as you were still within whatever its period was...
... but of course your payment has to reflect your usage and that can go up or down accordingly.

Sartois2020, energy isn't something you can buy and forgot about, unless you migrate to One Green Flex 2.0 as this standard variable rate tariff is cheapest for most (if everyone knew this auto-switching and comparison websites would go out of business), but you obviously don't know what you're talking about because the general public can't report to Ofgem!
P.S. I'm not in the pay of OFTM, but from personal experience, I rate them 5 stars for customer service and price!
  • Indeed, I stand corrected - I should have said the Energy Ombudsman, my apologies.

I have been advised by Citizen's Advice that energy companies are required to tell their customers about cheaper tariffs, and OTFM certainly didn't do this for me. Before I go any further with this, perhaps someone can clarify with this is indeed the case?

    Thanks,
