Well stopped dithering and have booked a place on someone's driveway in West London. Planning on getting the tube the whole way to London Stadium. The station I am parked near to is on the picadilly line so we should be OK to get there before that line shuts. If we leave very promptly.worst case we can get to Waterloo then get a cab back to the car I suppose. All added stress I could do without. Haven't used this before, I picked a driveway with quite a few reviews that's easy to get to. I know that area of London we'll as ky friend lives there. Unfortunately she is about a 40 min walk from the station which I don't fancy after midnight or I would park on their estate

Really should have updated this weekend. Had a lovely eve on Friday, driving and parking worked well, and while it made everything a bit harder and the concert finished at 10.40, so we could have possibly made the 11.35 train, it took all the stress out of it. The parking app worked really well, I am looking at doing it when we drop the girl at uni in September. Am assuming we can drop off and unload at the halls, but have already been told we can't park there, so if I drop her off and then drive 5mins away to park for a couple of hours that would be nice. Having been to a local city on uni drop off day it was horrendous for parking, so again it would take the stress out of it, for £10.

Finances are a worry right now. Our mortgage deal ends in Nov. Have been keeping an eye on rates as we can sign up to a new deal next week. Rates went up this morning 🤦‍♀️ No matter what we are going to have to increase our payments by over £200 a month!! No idea how we will find this, I mean, we will, but it's just come at such a bad time. The boy starting driving lessons, the girl off to uni........ am going to have to totally overhaul the budget.

Also I had planned to have two weeks off I August, one week to go to Scotland and one week off to do some things with the kids. Am now thinking I will only take three days the second week and work two of them, especially as then there is a bank holiday too. But I could really do with the break......

I have also lost quite a bit of money this mo th as have had clients go down with covid, and one who has 'postponed" me as they are having building work done for three months. This has serious annoyed me as it was quire a new client and expect me to hold the slot. As it is I probably as it fits in so well, but I am frustrated that they started me knowing this work was imminent.

So all in all, a but of a car crash atm.....

You can apply early for remortgage to seal in rate I thought most offers valid for 6 months

We could have looked at a complete remortgage last month I think, but I didn't want to until I could see the follow on rates with our current provider as I have lost one of my jobs since we took the original mortgage out and we couldn't see those until this week ready to switch on 2 July. Just our luck that the rates changed this morning. Anyway we will lock in for 5yrs I think. Just frustrating as we finally felt that we were making headway.

That makes sense - 5 year deal also sounds good right now.

  • Hiya @Drawingaline, your 'car crash' description of your current situation feels just like mine too.

I hope you strike it lucky and get sorted with an okayish mortgage deal. I'm feeling like getting a mortgage now is getting further and further away and am having to settle for my lot at the moment! At least food is on the table, roof over head etc its not so bad.

Add in finally getting covid and spending the whole weekend in bed feeling awful........going to have to speak to the hospital tomorrow as the boy has an appointment and hubby can't go with him. Not sure they will talk to him without a guardian, he is two weeks off 17. Will call in the morning and see if they want to move the appointment or not. Typically I tested positive Fri eve.

The hospital appointment is about possible surgery he may need in the next year or so, so quite important and not sure he will ask the right questions!
