Ouch to the £1.5K on driving lessons. We gave DD a lump sum up front of £1.2K and said that was it having been a bit held to ransom with DS who took a very long time to learn. Does she earn her own money yet? DS contributed £1.2K of his own money to the learning pot as we paid half... DD seems to be finding it much easier to learn so may not use it all - and it got topped up by her employer.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Yes, but she is currently saving as much as possible towards uni. Originally I said we would fund lessons and she would give us the contents of her CTF (1k) when she got it as we couldn't really afford it. But then hubby got two huge payrise and I would rather she had money for uni.
She was ready to take the test in Dec. But no tests available until march. So more lessons. Failed it (was just right at the wrong time, far too much going on, Dec would have been much easier for her 🙄) and is ready to retake it now. No tests. So more lessons. The whole testing system is just ridiculously overwhelmed right now. And I just cannot find the money for two of them to be learning at the same time.
Honestly if she had to fund it she just wouldn't learn. Which I hate the idea of having seen the issues my husband and mil have had from not being able to drive!Debt free Feb 2021 🎉1 -

One of mine, possibly DS1, had an app that allowed you to book tests in at short notice, whenever the test centre had had a cancellation.paydbx2025 #26 £890/£5000 . Mortgage start £148k June 23 - now £138k.

We are at in laws having a little holiday. Just me, hubby and smaller two. Big two at home cat sitting and working. Hopefully both college work and jobs. The girls two coursework subjects are due in at the beginning of may 😱 but at least then she has six weeks to just concentrate on the one subject she has exams in. Three exams over the month of June. She has been getting an A in all her mocks so should be ok.
We went to a NT property yesterday, expensive as we are not members (have been in the past) and today we are off to a castle. Again, expensive!Debt free Feb 2021 🎉2 -
So have done a castle, went to the seaside and amusement park and tomorrow we are off to the Royal mint!!! Spendy times 😂 but it's been nice, small two holding up well, and I quite like being at the in laws. However beginning to realise how old my fil is getting. Mil is quite a few years younger, but can also see how like her mum she is getting. Her mum had dementia for the last decade of her life, luckily mil is much younger, but still a worry for the future.
The girl needs to get online tomorrow to book her preferences for uni accommodation, I am very anxious about it, as I am not with her! I have an alarm set and will probably ring her to remind her. She is very responsible, but it will impact us and our finances if it goes wrong.......and I dont like not being in control.
Moneywise we are ok. Need a tank of petrol and some spends tomorrow, but won't have spent anywhere near as much as I thought we would. Hubby has been paying for the meals out and mil has chipped in with car parking and ice creams. Have to decide if we come straight home on Friday or stop off on the way. Thinking straight home and then may suggest a day out on Saturday somewhere on the train maybe instead.Debt free Feb 2021 🎉2 -

Had a nice relaxing time thanks.
The girl applied for accommodation, and we finally went to see the uni on an offer holders day. She is now in crisis mode about it all. The trouble is the first uni she visited on the coast gave her a 'safe, warm' feeling and this one hasn't. But it is seen as better and graduates from it are really supported with networking etc. I think she is overthinking it all, and the past two years have been really hard on her so she doesn't feel ready for it. We just keep saying don't give up this wonderful opportunity, and if it doesn't work after the first term simply drop out, come home, and rethink it all'. Seriously it shouldn't be this hard!
Back at work this week and have taken on some new clients. All doing ok so far.
Hubby got paid and everything sorted. The smallest has a birthday this week, but he hasn't asked for much. I have booked him a trial football session, and then realised it slightly overlaps with parents evening. Which is online so will probably end up having to do it on my phone in the car park! Luckily it's a virtual one.Debt free Feb 2021 🎉2 -
