some months are just poop financially
This. Sometimes feels like we’re fighting a losing battle. But it’ll come back round again.

Had to almost out matchsticks in my eyes last night waiting up for the girl. Past 1 before I got to bed, but had a lovely lie in today.

The girl now has covid (was clear on a test before the concert yesterday, but positive this morning with sore throat and cough) we are down to the last box of tests so will save them for her day 5 etc.

It has meant I have got out of a meeting tomorrow I really didn't want to attend (the people there are very very wary of covid, so I know they wouldn't want me there) so every cloud!

The girl applied for student finance today and will be accepting the offer from the London uni (well when the UCAS site is back up properly, it appears to be down for maintenance right now!) This past week has made her realise how much she wants to study in London. Me and hubby need to set our account up with SLC but because we both attended uni in the 90's and had loans (long paid off) they class us as already having an account but can't reset it online (set up pre internet) so need to ring them. I am fine with that, hubby will hate it and claim he is far too busy and important to find time for it. What a fuss! But at least her application is in. She attended a webinar for the halls she wants to live in and it answered some of her questions as there were current students on there. She said they asked people to type in where they were from and there were a ton of international students, so she is quite excited about meeting a huge range of people.

Anyway off to spend the last couple of £ in my food budget on some bits for tea.

    Sorry the girl has covid.

Great news she is feeling more positive about uni and that a decision is being made.

Boo hiss to losing a client on the last day of the month and struggling to make up the £. Hope you find other ways to make up the shortfall and still have time to relax.

So uni choices confirmed on UCAS, student finance applied for and the girl tested positive for covid on Saturday! Busy times 😂

Student finance isn't going to be straightforward, have had to write a letter to get my loan account reset, apparently if you have ever had a student loan then they hold your details and in order to upload my financial details I need to create an account. But my loan was from the mid nineties and paid off years and years ago. So I failed security as the address they have for me must be one of about 7, and I have no idea which one! I am actually annoyed that they still hold my details, the loan was done and dusted, and I cannot be expected to remember stuff from two decades ago. Hubby managed to reset his as his loans were still being paid up to about 5yrs ago. But seriously, what a faff. I have been given a way to print off a form and upload it to the girls loan account, but will wait to see if the reset works first.

Otherwise just trying to tighten our belts and keep moving forward. Energy DD adjusted again, this time downwards as the arears were cleared. Am waiting for the bill to be raised on the account, it's normally the 4th, so should show tomorrow.

Have been trying to catch up on admin tasks alongside working more hours, it feels non stop atm.

Good luck with the forms. Hope your DD recovers from covid quickly without spreading it to the rest of you.

Thought I had updated in the week, would appear not!

Had a tooth out this week and my body didn't react that well. It totally wiped me out for 48hrs, had to cancel a client as I was just so tired. Am fine now and the soreness is easing so think it is getting better. The tooth had a crack in the root which the dentist thought it may have back in 2014, so I managed an extra 7yrs with it and no infections until Jan so not bad going. I hate the feel of it missing though, hope that eases. The idea of an implant is 🤮 not the cost more the procedure, and a bridge isn't possible atm due to the worry about the one behind being on its last legs too........will see how it goes.

Student loans must have received my letter as I got an email to reset my password and have updated all my financial details for the girls application. Hubby managed to reset his all online on Monday, but has promptly forgotten what he reset it to so has now locked himself out of his account 🤦 I just need him to get on there so I can update it all with his P60 that he has printed off. Honestly, what a complete faff!

The girl has been invited to a proper open day for offer holders at the end of the month so that is signed up for. She signed up for a guest so I can go along, but tbh if she goes with her friend who also has a place in September I may leave them to it an meet up with my friend. Have already sounded her out and she is around. I may even try for last minute tickets to a show for the eve, it's been ages! But finances are still stupidly tight.

Have taken on some new clients, one wasn't happy and has cancelled after one visit. Talking to my boss they are obviously after something completely different to what we offer, and were warned that it wouldn't be perfect after one visit, it takes at least 4 visits to even get on top of a new house. I feel I did incredibly well in the limited time I had there, but there are plenty more jobs coming in, so not a problem form my pov. I know I did a good job, just not what they are after.

Looking forward to some time off from this Friday. Off to in laws, need to make a decision on what days we will go. Thinking Easter Monday until the Friday. Gives us a few days to do some trips. Don't want to leave the cats any longer (even though the two older kids are staying home with them!) We will miss them too much 😂

Hoping I can continue to keep the food costs down, off to buy Easter eggs in a bit, no doubt there will be none left and I will get grumpy and annoyed. Who are these people who can buy Easter eggs in Jan and still have them in their house by now? For me they are very much a last minute buy and every year me and hubby have a row about this. The boy needs a dairy free one and they always seem to sell out first!

Anyway off to do yet another load of washing.

I am the same on Easter eggs.

Sorry the extraction made you lose money and have pain.

Annoying about the new client - but it sounds like you are well rid. They would have continued to be picky forever.

Letting DD go with a friend sounds a good call.

I’m not sure what it is you do but yes it sounds like this client might have had unrealistic expectations and it’s probably better that they cancelled.

Teeth are expensive and stressful. Poor you with all that trouble.

  • I’m with you on the Easter eggs. If I bought them that far in advance they might not make it to Easter Day 🙄😋😊

I clean people's houses. After talking to my boss we feel this person was after a proper deep clean, which takes hours and hours rather than a two hourly one.
