    Morning all!
not been around these part for ages!!!!
first day of the week i have to spend in the house as it were so i have a pan of lentil soup made with bacon bits simmering away nicely and 4 french sticks proving as i type.
i have read the thread and caught up with everyones news.
to the poster who is getting a laminator for xmas what a BRILL idea i have a 6 page word document of recipes that i got from this site and i print out the individual page as i try a recipe so im goin to price laminators today and put one of them on my must have list as its such a brilliant idea.

We have a huge shed full of hubbys junk and clutter so after xmas i thought i could maybe clean it out and use it as a pantry. it has a socket and a light and if reasonably wind and waterproof. Do you think i could keep tins and things in there?

I have been reading about dehydrators etc on this thread can somebody enlighted me as to :~
    A) Do i need one?
    B) Can i live without one?
    C) how do they actually work?
    D) what can i dehydrate?
    E) how do I use the goods i have dehydrated?

I am planning on learning jam making and preserving for the new year too as well as trying my hand at a few home grown fruit and veggies any tips greatly appreciated especially jam making and preserving etc.

well im off now to price a laminator
    have a productive day everyone.

Tooties - I had a laminator for mothers day this year... was about £20 from one of the big supermarkets plus you need to get a pack of laminating sheets. You may not use it a great deal but it is worth having :)

I don't see why you can't use the shed as a pantry - someone else on this thread is doing the same :)

Can't answer your dehydration questions but I can say 'no, you can't live without one!' - have a look at https://uk2-ssl.westfalia.eu/?vbSESSID=67f38d6f37241979bf63fc925dbedba1 - this is where I have bought mine from.... hopefully it will be here soon! :D

  • Hi everyone

Not been on for ages hope you are all getting on with your xmas plans.
Loved the story about your ds at scouts Dee...good for him! you must have been so proud!
I am currently sorting out ds going to school in Jan.....he had a visit on Tues for the afternoon and spent most of the lesson time sat in the corner with a coat over his head flapping.....had a terribly stressful day.
Then the SENCO told me no one has applied for his support post so I dont think he wlll be starting in Jan!!
am waiting for the special needs dept at sheff council to get back to me on what the next step is....major stress in this house at the mo....seems no mainstream schools want my son....he is a lovely intelligent loving and funny boy who happens to have autism...they only see the autism unfortunately. I have spent most of this week in hopeless tears.
Hey ho I can see myself home schooling at this rate!
Inbetween all this I have done my xmas cake and am planning on making my own marzipan instead of the yukky shop bought yellow lump...have nevr done it tho....anyone else done it?

got to go and pick ds up from nursery...will be on late no doubt

I got my laminator from Stationary box for £15 last year, I type out recipes I like from books and intend to print and laminate them and put them into a file, when I get round to it. Pouches you can get from the £ shops etc.

claire, we had the opposite, the mainstream really wanted my son to stay there so they could get extra funding I think more than anything but were useless at dealing with him if I am honest so this year he started in an SEN school, wish I had done it sooner. My youngest is coping much better since we have moved and he's in mainstream, he doesn't have an ASD diagnosis unlike his brother but has a lot of issues. Every child is different, some cope brilliantly in mainstream and I am hoping that one day my son can be integrated back into a mainstream school, but a better one! Good luck in finding a suitbale school for your son. Never ending battle isn't it. www.asd-forum.org.uk might be of help to you if you have not looked already.

Sheds can be used as a pantry, only issue I have known someone to have was some things she kept in there when it was very bad weather (She lives in the north of Scotland so gets very cold) had part frozen, causing them to go off...as long as you can get round that, should be fine. She did a few things like lining the walls and putting shelves in then tested it by putting small pots of water around the shed and checked to make sure they didn't freeze. Keeping things off the floor is usually a good idea.

Lunch is the next one, DS2 off school so him to feed aswell, soups and bread for dipping I think as he's got a sore throat. Will do rice with the chilli tonight as I have a lot of it. I'll get some baked spuds out of the freezer for tomorrows lunch, keep forgetting they are there.
One day I might be more organised...........

Cheerfulness4 I usually top my carrot cake with cream cheese mixed with a little icing sugar and crushed pineapple. We dont like walnuts so we tried substituting the pineapple and its totally yummy

    Lesleyxx

I love the sound of the crushed pineapple addition. I've got a couple of tins already in the cupboard, too. That will be my next topping. Thanks Lesley. :D

Well done to Jamie's DS3 :T Exciting times. I remember when my eldest had just started coming out of daytime nappies. He suddenly annouced while we were out that he'd 'done a poo'. We were in Blockbusters at the time, picking a movie. I was mortified when he shook it out his shorts onto the floor. I scurried across the floor and picked it up with a tissue and shoved it in my hangbag hoping no one had seen. :o Having said that, the place had cameras everywhere. We made a quick exit.

Right, think that D&DD's recipe for HM meringues is on my weekend list of treats. We like them dipped in a bit of chocolate and sandwiched with cream. Yum. Might get DS2 to make them as he's getting pretty good on the cooking front.
