This is the first time I've read this thread, it's brilliant! I have been eating out of my stockpile for the last two weeks, week 1 cos I had no money and week 2 as I've had a stinking cold and not left the house for 4 days. I have always stockpiled a bit, but having read this thread (and the Australian lady's blog) I think I will get back into the habit, my stores are quite low now. My biggest fault is that sometimes I let the food go past the sell by date, I must get in the habit of checking dates and rotating my stock!
Thanks for all the info ladies (and gents if I missed anyone), I will start rehoarding next week0 -
you know.. and i know i'm gonna get things thrown at me cos this whole thread is about using up stuff in the cupboards.. lol.. there's nothing wrong with having food stocks.. its when you buy food and don't use up the old stuff that you run into problems. this blog is written by an Australian Lady, Rhonda Jean, and she stockpiles, but she makes her stockpile works for her. She's written a number of entries about stockpiling successfully, you may want to check it out. the link goes straight to her stockpiling tabbed entries. Having said all that.. perhaps it was for the best, because if your home was flooded, then all that food would probably have been ruined as well...

I try and keep stocked up on basics that I buy when on offer or BOGOF and then I "sell" my stocks to myself and restock IYSWIM ...I do try and use things in rotation, but get sidetracked sometimesand forget to move stuff around...but I'm all tidy at the moment due to massive stock take/re-sort I did last weekend. Love the link - spookily I found Rhonda Jean's site last night and have bookmarked it for future reading but will start with the page from your link I think.

her kitchen is pretty good, i like it a lot. But the kitchen i *really* want belongs to my MIL. my OH keeps saying to me (as a joke) "'c'mon, we'll kill my parents, bury them in the garden, get the kitchen"... and i'm so tempted.. black granite tops. lots of cupboards with all divided storage and stuff. large 5 ring cooker. matching equipment. large fridge. small freezer (bigger ones out in the garage). breakfast table. senseo. coffee machine. orange juicer. smoothie maker. bread maker. microwave. *swoooooooooons*.

Hello rhonda jean - how nice to see you here. Can I just say how much I LOVE your blog? this evening I had planned to finish knitting my dishcloth (I've just found out about knitting dishcloths and I love doing it), work out a planting plan for my garden for next year, and perhaps carry on with the food stock list I have been trying to get typed out on the pc - but I've been reading your blog alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll evening! It's great, really great. :beer:People Say that life's the thing - but I prefer reading

To be honest, Rhonda Jean.. never mind the kitchen envy. I have linen cupboard envy. And garden envy. And hen envy. and sewing room envy.. in fact it got so bad the other night, i was talking to a friend and i was wailing.. "she has a linen cupboard! And i wantttt a linen cupboard!! I want neatly folded clean gorgeous smelling sheets and covers and stuff so i can open the door and see it all and go ahhh!" .. ahem. can you tell i'm just a little bit OCD?

Good evening, thanks for the support, not spent today, have been trying to place an order with wilkinsons for cleaning stuff but the darn site won't let me check out, plan on buying in bulk then putting the money in from GC budget as I use it.
Today we had, toasties for lunch (missed brekkie oops) chilli & rice for dinner (kids had chicken, sweetcorn and chips, followed by waffles (found in cupboard mmmm) and icecream as I needed something sweet for me, angel delight with strawberries in for the boys.
Tomorrow I must remember to get the baked spuds out, I keep forgetting, spotted some prawns in the freezer and just fancy prawns on spuds, mmmm! One day I might be more organised...........

hello taurusgb, thank you. I hope you find a lot of helpful info and some gentle inspiration as you read.
kethry, thank you for your continued support of my blog, not just here, but at other places too. Any old cupboard can be painted and made into a linen cupboard. Check out your hard rubbish throw out next time the council has one. You find some excellent things sitting on the footpath waiting to be taken to the tip. The chicks should hatch out in 14 days. I'll make sure I take a photo so you can see them.0
