    omg!!! I'd have had a blue fit!! guess it puts the pen marks on our virtually new (2 years!) kitchen cupboards  in perspective... even if I can't get the marks off......
I've sorted through the clothes boxes today... got rid of ds2's too small clothes and pulled out the next size for him - we get so many hand-me downs that at the moment I have to buy very little :T Also been trying to work out what seeds I need to buy for the garden next year... I'm seeking some hanging baskets and brackets so if anyone knows of a cheap place for me to look then I would be very grateful0 -
Well, I need to do something, for weeks now, since we moved in or just after my freezer has been at 'full' all the time, cupboards are about the same, if I have even noticed a gap I have plugged it with something. I need now to shop from home and literally buy what we need, without excuses! This won't be easy as I have my own issues with empty cupboards and freezers, [/quote
Good luck with this lil_me - believe me I know what it's like to have "issues" with space in cupboards and freezer ... and I'm even worse now than I used to be. Last July just before we had the awful floods, I had forced myself to run my stocks right down before we went on holiday ready for a clean sweep new start on our return. 21st July our town flooded to a depth of 13 feet at it's worst point and the main street turned into a roaring river, 22nd July we went on holiday to Wales (a day late due to floods) and all week the TV news where we were staying was speculating on food shortages to come...never happened but I was a nervous wreck by the time we got home ............never, EVER again!!!! :eek:People Say that life's the thing - but I prefer reading

Morning all!
I have been reading about dehydrators etc on this thread can somebody enlighted me as to :~
A) Do i need one?Can i live without one?
C) how do they actually work?
D) what can i dehydrate?
E) how do I use the goods i have dehydrated?
A) Yes of course!:rotfl:Certainly not
C) mine has a fan in the base and trays that stack on top, and it just hums away drying as it goes. Takes varying times depending on what you are drying but almost everything I have done has been a success.:j
D) Vegetables, fruit, herbs, flowers, even tinned or frozen food can be dehydrated...my DS2 wont touch tinned pears but when I found I Had 4 tins just about to go out of date and dehyrated them (figured I had nothing much to lose) he loved them:T
E) Well, you can rehydrate them as use as you would any other time (don't throw away the water you use to rehydrate though - use it up) or you can eat as snacks (such as dried fruit) Or you could do as I've just done (with advice and help from the ever helpful D&DD and dry various veg, then process to a powder and voila! HM stock powder!People Say that life's the thing - but I prefer reading

Cheerfulness4 your post about your son in Blockbusters has me howling with laughter and my kids just looking at me like I'd lost the plot lol.As for the laminator we got ours from Stationery Box for £15 and get the pouches in poundland as they are a lot cheaper than elsewhere
Tooties I cant vouch for the dehydrator but it looks a great idea so I've ordered one and wait with baited breath by the letterbox for its delivery
Taurusgb I have empty cupboard phobia too and this thread hasnt helped any because I've stockpiled more than ever now lol

you know.. and i know i'm gonna get things thrown at me cos this whole thread is about using up stuff in the cupboards.. lol.. there's nothing wrong with having food stocks.. its when you buy food and don't use up the old stuff that you run into problems. this blog is written by an Australian Lady, Rhonda Jean, and she stockpiles, but she makes her stockpile works for her. She's written a number of entries about stockpiling successfully, you may want to check it out. the link goes straight to her stockpiling tabbed entries. Having said all that.. perhaps it was for the best, because if your home was flooded, then all that food would probably have been ruined as well...
