House is totally upside down. But the lounge is really taking shape.

I've not been able to cook proper , or make any cakes , biscuits etc as i struggling with food at the mo. gonna make a shepard or cottage pie in a mo tho, as that simple. plus i can then hopefully have some left for lunch tomoz.

i want to make some gingerbread men and shortbread soon with my kids. so if anyone has any fool proof recipes i'd be grateful. cause at the mo i seem to be able to burn air. lol.

Yategirl I've never figured out this whole eating lark cos my hubby eats next to nowt and always has to watch his weight

I've had one of those odd days where you spend all day running round like a headless chicken with nothing much to show for it.Been into town though in the pouring rain I needed some bits and bats and found that Poundland have Douwe Egberts Filter coffee in so I bought four packets which should keep hubby happy for a while

I have to say a big thank you to DDD for the microwave meringue recipe she posted recently as I have just tried it and it works a treat and is so easy too.Must admit to being a little overenthusiastic with the size of the balls though and didnt expect them to expand so much in cooking so now we are having pineapple pavlova for tea instead of individual meringues lol.

Also made some choc chip muffins for lunchboxes tomorrow as the cake tins are all empty and havent got time for a big bake until tomorrow as Asda are delivering my shopping in the morning so cant go out

jcr16 know what you mean about the gingerbread men but I have to get a decent cutter first or it'll be headless gingerbread again lol

Lesley - I know..... dh still looks as skinny as the day I met him.... despite what he eats and much to everyone else's disgust! Having said that... most meals, if not all are healthy.. just the bit of cake and chocolate here and there! Whereas me... I only have to think about cake/chocolate and the pounds go on!!

MW meringues sound good... must go and back and search for the recipe!

Our local cookshop had 4 metal gingerbread people (man, lady, girl and boy) for about £2.90 - they look good quality and I bought some for ds2's baking pressie!

Hi there! I like this idea, thank you! My dd3 wanted a Fifi cookset for Chrimbo, but seeing what it contained I was none too impressed, so think I shall get together a mini cooking kit for her, she'll love it! Wonder if I could find a Fifi apron anywhere, will have to have a look around, I know my older ones had Spot aprons and even a Miffy one when they were little. Have to have a look in the garage for some spray paint, could then put it all in the quality street or roses tins if I decorate them, they are sadly empty - they didn't quite make it to the festive season!

Bad news on ds's present, don't know whats happened but it hasn't arrived, and order status says they'll contact me! But on the bright side it meant I could go and get the flour, so breadmaker is now on its inaugural flight! :j

That is a pain about the delivery... hope it comes soon!

DS2 (3 years) wanted his own cooking set for christmas... I looked at a few but wasn't that impressed as I know he wants to "cook" not play.. so at the local cookshop I got an apron (do a search for Fifi on google - you will find an apron I am sure!), silicone pastry brush (greasing tins is a fave job :D), silicone spoon and spatular with wooden handles (FIL is going to cut the handles down to a better length), 3 pudding dishes in different sizes with lids (couldn't find any better mixing bowls for a 3yr old), and the cookie cutters. I then went to the local cheapy store and got a small baking tray, 3 whisks (tiny, medium and large but all with child-sized handles) and an adult sized spoon with a child sized handle. I couldn't find a good rolling pin (just the small child sized ones which we have and tbh.. not much use). I am going to make 4 recipe cards (one of which will be gingerbread cookies when I find a suitable recipe) and then make up a "kit" with the dry ingredients so he can make the gingerbread people straight away :)

    hth with ideas :)

Well - I still don't have a functioning thanks button ( that is the button is there but nothing happens when I click on it ) but at least I seem to be able to log in now, so that's an improvement.

Kethry - I tried your bread last night - it was lovely! it shall become our high days and holidays loaf for when I have spare time.....I use my beloved panny on a day to day basis, and love the bread that comes out of it, but it is nice to have an extra special recipe for when I have more time....if my thanks button was working I'd use it, but please accept my unbuttoned thanks meanwhile!

HM vegetable soup (made yesterday) for quick dinner tonight with Kethry's bread - everyone coming in and going out at different times - except me and I intend pointing them all at the soup pot and carrying on with my cross stitch...may even do a bit of my patchwork quilt later.

Awful weather here...but very cosy indoors by the fire :j

  • I've just made a carrot cake that someone on this thread gave me the link to. It was on the Delia Smith website and I just have to say... THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. I have a feeling it was JCR but the minds clogging with flour at the moment. It was perfect!

I've had so many false starts making it, don't know why because it was so quick and easy. Definitely one of those recipes that makes you filled with dread, as you think 'this can't possibly turn out well', but it did. :D

Will be trying it with cream cheese next time as the Quark is a tad tangy but goes well with the spiceiness of the cake.

Right so, recently done doughnuts, iced buns, apple muffins and carrot cake. Whats next? Need more pics and inspiration everyone. And has D&DD gone awol? Maybe because this site is loading at dinosaur pace at mo. Well is for me.

  • Duh, my brain is obviously also going at dinosaur pace as I have now remembered how to use the thread search and discovered that it was indeed JCR that kindly posted the link for me. Much appreciated. :)

Lolly-have Lidl still got the offer on fresh fruit and veg? A german friend once told me that going to Lidl was like going to a supermarket in Germany as they stock same brands.
