am feeling fairly positive about the whole lack of car thing for two months:) im looking forward to saving the money instead!

i might have to wait for the dehydrator now though:eek:

baked 2 x 1lb loaves from kethrys recipe today, had a lovely ham sandwich for lunch:D

have just iced half of a traybake for lunch boxes for the kids tomorrow.

i still managed to get all the shopping done i had planned today. spent £106:eek: but that included a months cat/chicken food, a months baking stuff (well it should be) toilet rolls, washing up liquid, washing power, and two weeks worth of milk:D

next week will be meat....if i can find room in the freezer!

mind you i think i have enough food in now, not to have to go shopping for two weeks!

hope everyone else had a good day?

Jenagain - I loved the cake and your ds is very cute!

So pleased to hear you are enjoying the thread *I just hope I'm not boring anyone with my ramblings*:o
You'd be surprised what you can grow in containers you know..I had my best courgettes in pots this year as the rain rotted off a lot in the ground.I grow peppers, chillis, aubergines,sp.onions, carrots, lettuces, potatoes, dwarf beans, strawberries, blueberries and radishes in pots!!Theres lots of choice now just pick something you all enjoy :D
Well done on starting to bake more again its surprising how much you can enjoy it.I must make some jam tarts tomorrow I was scolded tonight as we didn't have any :o
Oh thanks for that D&DD. Hadn't realised you could grow so many things in containers. Potatoes and carrots would be great to start with. And I love blueberries, so maybe, I'll have a go at those too:T

Can't thank everyone enough for this thread, haven't managed to read all of it yet so forgive me if this question has already been answered. I am finally reclaiming my pantry. Have cleaned out garage to transfer decorating stuff and tools into, DH has even offered to fix light fitting to ceiling (don't ask),and paint pantry as well. DH says that a pantry has to be cold though and ours is warm as the boiler is in there, will this make a difference can i still store flour etc, i thought warm was better than cold and possobly damp. Any storage ideas gratefully appreciated.

what a nightmare trying to get on the site this morning!

Just been shopping and got what I need for the Onion Marmalade - well... all but the vinegar... Most vinegars are made with Barley malt which contains small amounts of gluten and unfortunatley DM can't tolerate any gluten at all... can anyone suggest what vinegar I could substitute with so I could make some onion marmalade for DM?

Also got some baking equipment for DS for christmas (just got to get a couple of wooden handles shortened by Fil!).... managed to get some proper people cookie cutters too! Am going to make and laminate 4 recipes to go with the kit - 1 will be gingerbread people... anyone got any good suggestions for 3 more recipes? Suitable for a 3 year old to help bake with me....

Furball - pantries used to be cold as they stored meats/cheese/vegetables etc... so if you don't have to store those in the pantry then tinned stuff and flour should be fine. Alternatively... you could use the pantry to store your equipment and tinned stuff and use your kitchen to store everything else?

Ooh thank you lil-me that's great...just printed it off along with Leslie's ice cream recipe. What flavour ice cream would you like me to make for you? I'll make anything you like as long as it's strawberry 'cause that's what I promised DS2 :rotfl:

Site still very slow today am being driven almost mad - mad I tell you! I have thanks button for some people and not others  and I daren't try and turn the page or the whole thing just hangs (only on this site so I know it's not my PC) so won't try and read what I missed yesterday until tomorrow IYSWIM - apologies to anyone who has said anything to me personally - if it's not on this page I haven't seen it :o

hey hon - did you look at cider vinegar? i just checked the recipe and it doesn't specifically state what kind of vinegar to use, so you could use any. White wine vinegar? I wouldn't use red wine vinegar.. lol. Failing that: health food shop may have a vinegar that is gluten free. Its not something i know a great deal about. sorry!

btw, i checked into the freebies on that site, its pretty good! I might have a go next year. Especially if i get my (hoped for!) scanner for xmas this year, then i can scan my efforts and post on the blog.

btw, regarding the onion marmalade, you all know its quite liquid and sloppy, it doesn't set like a jam or a proper marmalade? you can still use it for sandwiches though. I know Donna of a more green and simple life tried boiling it for longer and it didn't seem to set any more, so its obviously meant to be that way. She did however use it with a cheesy bread pudding and said it turned out well :)

oh, and while i remember... *ducks the sofa too and goes on chanting.. "three weeks.. three weeks.. three weeks today.. " and runnnnnnnnnnns like crazy* :D :rotfl:

Thanks Kethry... I do have cider vinegar but not enough  but I do think that is ok (off the top of my head!).... wonder how to make it slightly more "solid" - not bothered about it being set though... will have a search!

STOP IT with the countdown

actually... no... carry on... I have 1 pressie left to get and I am sorted! :D :rotfl:
