I *want* a dehydrator!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what about a canning gadget? they seem popular in the US...

    Book list as promised yesterday:

    1. The Edible Container Garden Michael Guerra highly recommended... very inspirational and very useful... I come back to this one time and time again.. especially when I "loose my way"!

    2. The Gardening WHICH? Guide to Growing Your Own Vegetables useful for both container gardening and "traditional" gardening. Each vegetable is listed with advice about varieties, growing in different situtations and harvesting.

    3. Grow Your Own Vegetables Joy Larkcom very indepth.. more for "traditional" growing than pots but still lots of useful advice

finally the "Kitchen Garden" magazine is very very useful and "Grow Your Own" can be helpful too.

Kate - I think we would all love to have words with your HV  You would think most MW's and HV's would be a bit more broadminded wouldn't you...

Here's an assortment of stuff I dried this year..looks are deceiving as to how much is in the jars ;) In front is some dried apple that lives in the freezer for now:D

These bags are dried chillies and dried tomato and chilli paste mix (add water blows your socks off :rotfl: ) and beetroot in the jar.
  • D&DD - I don't know much about dehydrating things but do they still keep all the goodness then? Would be a great way of storing bought up reduced veg that is still in good condition. The mushrooms would come in handy particularly in our house.

  • I agree it looks like a great idea, this dehydrating lark :) Also agree with cheerfulness - the mushrooms would be top of the list in our house, i love them!

Ooooh Jamie, i'd love a burger press. I've just had a couple of things from Lakeland - a quiche/flan tin with holes in the bottom and another thing for pies (dont know how to describe it?) - so no need for baking blind (which always annoys me!)

what stage of finger food is little one at? You could make teenie bubble and squeak pattie cakes (mashed potato with any finely chopped veg (more chunky for older child/adult), shape into patties and then dry fry in a non-stick saucepan. If red cabbage.. you could slowcook with apple and a smidge of vinegar.. urrmmm.... trying to think what else... just steam lightly and toss with a bit of butter... Just don't have big pieces as that seems to put little ones off...

    any good?
  • Thank you bubble and squeak sounds good but will need to blend as he has problems swallowing:confused:
