Dee - my ds3 still has a sippy cup and he will be 7 in april. he will drink out of a beaker a bit, but prefers the cup (plus he gets so focused on a particular task he constantly knocks over things, so better for me):) and beacuse he still has one, dd (3and half) wont give up hers! i dont get stressed about it anymore.

jenagain - hmmm. health visitors. and midwifes unless they have children themselves i wouldnt listen to them. bouncy chair giving a cold?? what utter B*****s

when i was in hospital having dd, a midwife came up to me in the bed (didnt bother looking at my notes) and said "would you like me to show you how to bath your baby?"

i replied..."she's my fourth...would you like me to show YOU how to bath a baby????"

    :D

just remember...YOU are their mum. you know best. as long as they are happy, cleanish, fed and loved, everything else doesnt matter

good for you JD! sometimes these people have an inflated view of their own importance in the world. dont mean to upset HVs or midwives though - I've met some very good ones, but one or two truly awful ones ;)
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

  • Jenagain - my little boy was well gone 2 possibly two and a half befor ehe would give up his bottle, we switched him around to using his cup in the day with his bottle at night then gradually reduced the bottles down and then gave him a cup, if he didnt like it he didnt get it. He was fine after that though.

Jsut watch with his speech though - my nephew had his bottle till he was gone 4 and you could barely understand him and now im having difficulty with bens speech becuase he was on a bottle so long that the palette at the top of his mouth didnt develope properly. So no one bar me and his father understands him,

JD - yes some health visitors are crap - i remember watching my ward sister trying to bath ben and he held ont eh side of the bath for grim death and refused to go in it, telling me how to breast feed him and nto to cuddle him too much!! Hello ive given birth i want a cuddle!!!!!!!
    Time to find me again

I have a temporary one [health visitor] who isn't very nice - she told me he should have given up his bottle 'way before he was 1' and also that it was my fault that DD had a cold at 2 weeks old, apparently because I put her in a bouncy chair

completely OT, but.. what the HELL?!!! What is it with people like this who insist on foisting their beliefs on other people when its not necessary for the job?!

Reminds me of a friend who had a wee accident with her husband (unprotected sex) and since she didn't want to be pregnant, did the responsible thing and went looking for the morning after pill. The first one she tried, she was told "yes we do stock it but the pharmacist won't give it you, he believes its wrong". She had to go to 5 pharmacies before she found a pharmacist that would give it to her - 2 didn't have it in stock (fair enough), but the other 1 refused to serve her as well. She said she found it interesting that the two that refused her, the pharmacists were male, and the one that did eventually serve her, the pharmacist was female.

It really makes me angry, people like this, who put their beliefs/pet theories first and make their colleagues look bad, especially when they are dealing with people who might not have the knowledge to think differently.:mad::mad: good for you, hon, in NOT believing her.

    :T Well said Kethry :D
My last health visitor was so good she never saw DS3 til he was 3  they blamed staffing problems....

Jen when DS2 was 3 weeks old I swore he had a cold but the HV said "thats impossible..they can't get a cold this early as they still have all your antibodies to fight germs with..." He DID have a cold...
Each of my HV *we had to move around a lot so had 6 different ones!!* had a very different take on life..the best one was my first she was like an 'old school' matron but wonderful!!!

Jamie thats exactly why DS3 kept his sippy..he's still a nightmare now as he's so clumsy but the canteen works really well..when he remembers to do it up properly :rotfl:

:rotfl: :rotfl: I could so imagine you stood there in your fluffy slippers and dressing gown giving the midwife a look when you said that about the bath :rotfl: :rotfl:

lilmisskitkat thats awful !!! What a thing to say to you did you report her???

Westward I have a cheapo dehydrater I got from Tchibo but its brilliant :) I've had it 2 years now so am getting the hang of it at last! Its great as things like mushrooms are so expensive usually but I can bulk buy them and dry them (and store them in a tiny space) when they are on special offer ;)Wouldn't be without it now...
