  • Well bit of good news, DP is getting huge turkey free from work this year :j :j should feed us for at least a week:o . And ive so far managed to make £380ish on ebay with loads more to list Including old car
Have got car off ebay £450ish ideal until next april when DP gets money for new car.

Have just made up huge stew and frozen 1/4 of it into batchs for DS who loves it, he actually turns his nose up at jars now:T .

Have looked in freezer and cupboards and we have enough food to see us through 2 weeks maybe little more at a push.

whew its been bit of an evening but all is well now :D
    My you've all been busy!!
Jamie your house sounds lovely :D I would love a big garden..if I put a shed in mine there would be no garden lol and chickens..they'd have to live in a highrise:rotfl:

I'd love a larger garden,I dream of having a smallholding but its just not practical for our family now due to the boys bits:cry: but hey ho we just cram everything in here instead. I can have an allotment anytime I want, just don't have time at the moment sadly..but one day :j

Its hard work keeping up with cooking/preserving the produce from a garden this size..I dehydrate, pickle, steam juice, jam, jelly, marmalade, freeze everything I grow for 'the stores' as well as extras from the farm shop and have an abundance to pick fresh also most of the year!!! How do people manage when they have more..I'd be knackered :p

Cheeky forgot to add huge thanks for the Naan recipes I'll let you know how I get on!! I'm definately going to have to make some curry now :)

lil_me must have been something in the air tonight! Hope yours are more settled now so you can chill a bit before bed..The broth sounded scrummy sounds like it stretched a looong way!

Sammy glad lambchop didn't get held up by the roadblocks ;) Great idea with the tights! He's going to look so cute!

Yategirl have you heard anything yet?? I think he'd be quite flattered though to hear people here want to rent him out lolol !!!
Lolly thats great news :D an ebay neutral car purchase love it :T So pleased your LO likes the homemade stuff it saves you a small fortune...Its always surprising when you think the cupboards are bare just whats 'lurking' in there! Make yourself a list if you have time as often you can 'see' meals then ;) I take it we're all off to yours then for the turkey dinner ???:rotfl:

Luna I grow a lot of stuff in pots *theres some pics on here somewhere* as well as in the ground, you get quite a decent crop still :)

Autismmum I don't store my flour in anything but under our stairs is quite cool..I've never had the dreaded mites yet not even in the flour upstairs where its warmer..They'd have a fieldday here!!! In Wilko's they do storage tubs called something like clicknstore and they're really cheap I'm sure they have a flour sized one...Some people store theirs in the freezer but I don't have the room normally!

Today I had a good sort out of 'The Stores' and was actually pleasantly surprised by the amount of stuff we still have especially baking things!! I found 6 packets of jelly underneath the heap of choccie chips and cocoa powders..forgot I moved some custard powder and batter mixes into an overflow basket..lots of buried treasure :)

Must switch the yoghurt maker on tomorrow and will need to get milk and more strawberries!! Neighbour who I bake for brought me in a whole tray of eggs her stepdad gave her..she won't use them as they have no datemarks..waste not want not!!

Breakfast today was wheatabix for the eldest two and for some reason brownies for number 3!!!

Lunch was cheese and ham toasties or sausage rolls and DS3 had his usual *plus doughnuts*

Dinner was sausages and mash for us but I cooked the chicken up so DS3 had some of this with a tomato sauce roll...ho hum!!!

Made a bread pudding with some crusts I had loitering about in the breadbin and all the family like this as a snack so theres not much left already!!

    Hi everyone,

For dinner tonight DS had nothing as he's not well (he wont even eat chocolate buttons :(), we had meals from the freezer - OH had meatballs made from sausages in a tomatoey/carrot sauce with pasta (from the recipe collection on here) and I had veg curry and rice.

I made spag bol last night and the girls liked it, and were very impressed with the bread I made! I've got one portion of spag bol left for the freezer as OH worked a 15 and a half hr day and his boss bought everyone fish and chips for dinner. Someone is being fired there tomorrow as he didn't show up yesterday and didn't call in, he came in today but then left again without saying anything to anyone! This means Tim might finally be able to get a payrise, even if it's just a little bit that would be helpful. Money for bills is looking good now, work are giving me a £250 advance tomorrow as I wont be getting paid properly until the end of December, plus we're due Tim's paternity leave from his work. As soon as my money comes in I plan on raiding Sainsburys meat aisle and filling a drawer in the freezer with meat for the month. Tim has also managed to get the day off for DS's birthday on Tuesday :j

I can't believe that a couple of weeks ago I was looking in the fridge thinking 'we've got nothing for dinner' - it's amazing what you can make out of what you've already got! Thank you so much for all the ideas and recipes, we have saved a fortune this month.

I need to go to Sainsburys again tomorrow to get more milk. DS hasn't been eating so has been having loads of bottles (yes he still has a bottle at 2yrs old!! Any tips on how to wean him off would be much appreciated) I also need to work out what I'm going to make for his party on Saturday and get the bits and pieces for that, and make a start on it if there are things I can make in advance.

I have decided on making the sour cream cake I tried the other day for his birthday cake. The only problem I had was that the edges burnt in the loaf tin - it was lined with greaseproof paper and cooked at 180 degrees for an hour. I had to cover the top with foil halfway through as it was starting to burn, but the middle wasn't cooked. Do I need to cook it on a lower temperature? If I make it in round cake tins are the edges likely to burn again? I wish I knew more about baking :o

Also I ordered the icing set DD&D posted the other day (11p) one, another loaf tin (1p and not too bad quality), apple corer and wedger (1p), flour sifter (1p) and a yorkshire pudding tin (also 1p!) and they arrived today so I can't wait to try them out :T

Going to have a think about what I can grow on the balcony next year - this summer we had spinach coming out of our eyeballs (never thought to freeze it so ate it with most meals!), some tomatoes, spring onions and strawberries. Want to give it a proper go next year though.

:D Hi Jen glad you got the tea for the girls sorted ok fingers crossed OH gets the rise that would be a great xmas pressie!
So sorry to hear DS isn't well hope he feels better soon..he's got to eat all the cakes! Wow you got some bargains on Amazon..didn't spot all those goodies
Milk is the thing we keep having to get I could kick myself for not getting more of the cravendale while it was on offer, but then I had nowhere to store it at the time..
Re the bottles have you tried the cups with straws or a 'grownup boys juice bottle'? Sometimes they just like the comfort of sucking still at that age DS1 still had his dummy til he was 3 and DS2 sucked his thumb for years, although both gave up the bottle for straws,DS3 however still had a sippercup til he was 7  he wouldn't drink anything at all otherwise..:o we now have an army canteen he uses..

We've got him a cup with straw to go in his stocking so that might help. I was going to take it away on his birthday but thats just mean!! Especially now he's ill! He drinks it quickly and throws it across the room so don't think it can be damaging his teeth, I might just let him have it for a bit longer yet - it must have been pretty hard for him to adjust to having a new baby sister so I don't want to cause problems between them as she has a bottle occasionally and he might get jealous  My health visitor said to let him have it as long as he wanted it for, but she's off until January and I have a temporary one who isn't very nice - she told me he should have given up his bottle 'way before he was 1' and also that it was my fault that DD had a cold at 2 weeks old, apparently because I put her in a bouncy chair

I was thinking the same about the Cravendale! We just didn't have the space for any more at the time - now it's gone up to £1.47 instead of £1.29  And he's got through 3 since Sunday! I do find Cravendale much nicer than other milk though, and it lasts so long (we get a semiskimmed between Tim and I that lasts 2 weeks +) We used to get Sainsburys Organic but it was always off halfway through the week

Tim's boss doesn't seem to be in as much financial trouble as we first thought (unless he's good at hiding it) so a payrise may well be on the cards - keep your fingers crossed for us! They have the chance of landing a 2yr job worth over £2 million so that would sort the company out for a while!
