Have been a lurker in this thread for a while - took me six hours to catch up, reading everything I'd missed when I first found it!
Thank you for all your fab recipes - I'm going to copy them all down and start baking instead of raiding the cake bar aisle in Tesco everytime!
Please can i have your recommendations for breadmakers, model nos etc? I'm going to keep an eye out for bargains on ebay!
Thanks again0 -
MMMmmmmmmmMMMMMmmmmHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!! those iced buns were DELISH!! (I only had a corner mind!
) I made 8 - 4 have gone and got the seal of approval from ds's, dh and FIL - "just like shop bought" (which is *the* seal of approval from dh who believes only shop bought is best  ). We have 4 left for tea and these have home-made choc spread in them
Next time I will double the number of buns as they were too large but yummy for a special treat!!
I remembered that I have my mum's biscuit "gun" - looks like a tube, you can fit different nozzles/shapes on the end and you have a press handle to squeeze the mix through to make shaped biscuits - guess what.... there was a nozzle just perfect for putting the filling inside the buns!!(it is made by William Levene Housewares and looks like this (but plastic) )
elle_gee - I have Lidl's breadmaker - was £30-40 (can't remember exactly) and it is wonderful! comes with a recipe book but I have had better success using other recipes.0 -
how did u make home made chocolate spread please. that sounds delish in the bun's.0
-
elle_gee - i dont use a bread maker - i do it by hand. which granted takes longer but is still jsut as rewarding and you still get to do all the chores or extra bakign because you have to leave the bread to prove (rise) for a bit then knock it back (beat the hell out of it) then shape and leave for a bit again before baking. If you fancy havign a try this way - seek out kethry or ill see if i can find a link because shes awesome when it comes to bread making.

In total is going to cost me £16.50 (includign postage and packaging) plus she is really good and emails me everyday to double check things
Am going to have to try and make some iced buns next week i think. and mreally must start makign the christmas list of things to get for christmas like little nibbles etc becasue bf tends to pick alot over christmas. keepign my fingers crossed i dont have to wrok christmas eve this year -because i love sitting down and wrapping all my presents on christmas eve. last year i had to work 1 - 8pm then come home, prepare the dinner and wrap all the presents - dont think i got to bed until about 2am ish - fingers crossed
now i have to sit down adn go over recipes for my sisters bakign book which i havent written yet!
QUESTION - when you first became a partner or homeowner etc what were the recipes you wish you'd known??? my sister is 20 and jsut setting up home with her bf of 2 years - they have a baby daughter (almsot 12 weeks) and a 2 year old in teh house and i forever get phonecalls of - how do i boil an egg so its dippy in the middle? Ive decided im goign to make her a baking book, as ive made her a baking hamper fro christmas (includes things like mixing bowl as the hamper, rollign pin, icing things (including tube for buns!) cookie cutters, sieve etc everythgin she needs, tins) so ive got a book for it ready to becoem a baking bible but im stuck for what to include. Im going to include recipes form this thread - will do a basic bread recipe too for making by hand etc - basic cake mix too and twinks hobnobs. any other suggestions appreciated!Time to find me again0 -
a couple of soup recipes? there are loads on one of the threads here, let me know if you want a link
apple braid!! sounds so yummy, I'm going to make some this week, you could include the savoury options too
how about cauliflower cheese (good one on MrBadExample's cooking thread!),
If she's a real beginner how about including scrambled eggs (microwave or saucepan versions), poached eggs, potato wedges, jacket potato with ideas for fillings, nice mash, cheesy mash etc potatoes are so versatile
back if I think of more!... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

i want to make my dad a grandads survival kit for christmas and am making my final 'to get' list now. So far I pan ot put them in a nice box and include the following
Marbles - to replace the ones you've lost raising your own kids
safety pins - remember to stay safe always
peppermints - because your worth a mint
clock - to remind you that time passes too quickly - so cherish every minute.
energy bar or tin of red bull - for that added boost when your grandkids arent tired, but you are.
pain caplets/deep heat - to ease those aches and pains after a day of grandkids
matches - to hold you eyes open after 7pm.
sour sweets - to remind you kids can be sweet one minute and sour the next.
Ok anymore ideas???Time to find me again0 -
Haven't been able to get on a pc all day *kids are home* Will be in later when they're all in bed I only got on here now as they're having dinner!!!0

In a Grandad's box maybe a photo of the grandchildren, just for men that covers grey :rotfl: a cap/hat to cover where they make your hair fall out, gloves for when it's cold and you have to push them on the swings, a minature whiskey or whatever he likes for when they've all gone home and it's peaceful again. Ear plugs! A must with my 2.
Well made lasagne with some of the bolognese batch cook, enough for 4 portions left after we had it for tea, I love lasagne so couldn't resist making it. I made the cheese sauce with powdered milk which I have never done before and was just as nice, will remember that for next time as milk is getting more and more expensive, I would have had to get more from the shop if I haddn't as I would have used up what we get delivered. 10 portions of chilli frozen and 4 of bolognese aswell. No bad work I don't think.enough chilli to last us until after Xmas really.
Only made biscuits, to be honest the recipe was not very good and they are more like small cakes than biscuits.
Going to nosey on the uktvfood website as Donna Hay I think her name is was on a Market Kitchen I watched last night and she made some lovely looking chocolate puddings, see if I can find the recipe as I fancy something chocolate.
Need to meal plan tonight for the week, week tomorrow is the end of my GC target and fingers crossed I will come under budget again. I need to work out the budget for December aswell.
D&DD hope you manage to nudge them off soon, I'm a naughty Mam as they both have their own PCs in their bedrooms, we also have a main PC and 3 laptops. They hate me because even if it's in their room I restrict how much they use it, because I am mean. I use the laptop on a night as I keep my legs warm with it, PC is in the conservatory, it's freezing in there and I refuse to put the electric heater on because I am too tight. DP did comment of why buy a heater then won't use it :rotfl:One day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
Hi Sammy theres a load on here for you to wade through

Right bakewell tart recipe is coming in a sec..I have a nice bramble and apple curd recipe also if you're like me and have a deluge of blackberries from the garden shower you everytime you open a certain drawer of the freezer...0 -
1lb blackberries
1 lb cooking apples (peeled cored and diced)
juice and finely grated zest of 2 lemons (unwaxed)
1 lb caster sugar
4 eggs,beaten
4 oz butter (unsalted is best for this but not essential):D
Chuck fruit in a pan with lemon zest+ 2 tablspns water and cook til pulpy.Put fruit through a sieve (or mouli if you have one..I got one of these after watching Hugh Foo Woo with one..).
Put pulp into a microwavable bowl add lemon juice and sugar.Stir til sugar dissolves.
Beat eggs lightly and add to fruit pulp.
Cook on 50% power until thick and creamy (or over a pan of hot water on the stove)
Pour into cool sterilised jars.Store in the fridge for up to 6 weeks..*never lasts that long here*..lovely used in tarts and cakes for something different;)0
