Thanks once again for inspiration. Have made Twinks hobnobs which are now firm favourites with neighbours, friends etc. This site is going to be really famous in our neck of t woods. I also made an apple sponge using, just one baking apple, two eating apples- couldn't bear to waste them and some left over christmas mincemeat-so mouth watering and very sweet in flavour but without adding extra sugar, so very pleased with effort. I have one more baking apple left and it has been requested again for tomorrow.
kids have been moaning that i have been on computer a lot lately but dont moan at recipes so i think a good trade off there. Bye for nowXX

Sounds good with the apple spongy thing. I have some severely reduced apples from Morrison's yesterday and jars of mincemeat I bought for 20p each after Christmas last year. I normally make mincemeat, but couldn't get the ingredients for 20p. It's STILL in date!

  • wow that's a great buy, after success of sponge i am going to look for some reduced ones as i wondered how long my mincemeat would last. I have made my own in past, but didn't get round to it this year and wasnt very pleased with taste, so a good way to use it up. On another note my dd's blood sugars only went up slightly with it and she had two portions. I am trying to reduce sugar in everything for her without compromising on taste and weigh out portions so i can roughly tell how much sugar is in each portion. I got 8 portions in total.

:hello: everyone, just realised its 2 weeks since i have been around  i knew there had been something missing.
1st week because i wasn't to good. and last week was school hol's so had DD3 at home although we did baking and she loved helping. i tend to think it was cleaning the bowl afterwards that was the appeal really.
D & DD - pleased to hear that your son is better. can i also be a little bit cheeky and ask for the savoury braid recipes.
To everyone - I have gone back a couple of pages and, had a read and thanked but to be honest if i read all that i had missed i think i would be gone for another 2 weeks etc. so please accept my apologises

Hoping to do some baking tomorrow.
ps bought a mini donut maker of e-bay and the kids and Grandkids are in awe.

Hi Ladies - sorry to have "disappeared" I was back to college for a couple of days last week - am over the moon as my last two assignments have been awarded "distinction" - I need one more to finish my nvq with an overall distinction - keep your fingers crossed for me!!!

I have been so busy, I went a bit mad on Friday and finally cleaned my oven - it is sparkling, then I decided to clean all the windows - wash all the curtains and springclean by 8:30pm, I was having trouble standing straight lol but the house looks fantastic

Cookingwise - I am doing well - have tried the lemon poppyseed traybake (10 out of 10), have made loads of pasty type things for OH lunchbox (he is delighted). However, my waistbands are getting a tad tight - so am easying off the cake recipes for a bit

Has anybody bought Delia's new Cheat Cookbook? was wondering if it's worth the £10 Tesco are selling it for???
  • Wow, this is the most incredible thread- I love it! I am so inspired to get back in the kitchen at the weekend. I love to cook but working full time and commuting four hours a day I just do not have time in the week (I cook a meal each night but no time for fin things like baking).

Would someone be an angel and point me in the direction of the pizza braid recipe please? It sounds lush but the can't find the recipe.

Thank you so much for all the inspiration so far.

  • I started it on Friday...

I have made an apple braid and 2 loaves of HFW banana bread (doubled up on sultanas as had run out of dried apricots). Lush! Am planning a savoury braid with leftover roasted veg, cheese and strips of pancetta. Just need to cook enough roasted veg to provide leftovers. ;)

Am already a fan (of the bunny boiler variety) of Twink's Hobnobs so no need to rush into the kitchen and bake those right now. Think I've put half a stone on since Friday :o Will be giving the bakewell tart a go soon. And the onion marmalade. And the scones... I have BigOven software which has been a blessing as have just left it open all weekend and copied and pasted as I went.

Thank you so much everyone for the recipes. I can highly recommend Delia's quick flaky pastry - everyone loves it who's tried it and soooo easy.

Have been trying to use up my freezer contents for ages now as I want to defrost them both. I'm doing okay but getting to the dregs now. Doesn't help filling it up with banana bread but at least it got rid of 6 overripe bananas that were languishing in the bottom!

Feel like I know you all so well. Looking forward to updates on DS's, DD's and Bumps!

Am trying to word something but don't want it to come across all wrong/condescending/foot in mouth, etc so please forgive me if I !!!! up:

You guys have made me so thankful for 'my lot'. I'm not a negative person and I know I have things pretty good but I think everyone sometimes loses sight of the big picture. D&DD - I really think you have your precious DS3 because you are one of the few special kind of people that has the strength of character and wonderful nature that means you can cope with whatever life throws at you. Maybe if necessary, I would have coped as well as you as I wouldn't have known any different, but somehow I doubt it.

One of the mums whose DD1 used to go to some of the school clubs my DD2 went to was one of those mums who I aspired to be. Always full of energy, extremely caring and loving (not just to her 4 children), patient, giving, etc. Her DD2 was diagnosed with autism just before we moved away from the area and I remember thinking then, if anyone can deal with that news and turn it into a positive, it's *******. D&DD, you come across as the same person (although it's clear that you're not her, I hasten to add!).

Anyway, I have waffled on so probably should stop now. I hope I haven't offended anyone as I have jumped in and 'spilled'. I just wanted to say how you've moved me and I have been in tears in places and I'm quite a tough cookie (there I go, bringing it back to snacks again :o )
