Its like semolina, you'll find it in the supermarket near the pudding rice and such. I use ground almonds, but only because that's what I have in the baking cupboard..
could you use semolina instead of ground rice then? It´s just that here in Spain I can get semolina but not ground rice0 -

Dee, glad you're back. Hope everything sorts itself out for you and your little ones. I'm going to make the white choc and raspberry muffins with my white chocolate. I've now got a huge block of dairy milk OH picked up for Valentine's. I hate to just scoff it all so will again keep to do something with at some point (if my can keep my strength - lol). Going to shops today so will get a muffin tin and some raspberries.
Vivaladiva, here's the bakewell tart recipe
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=6895307&postcount=482
and the sweet dough for the jammy/apple or fill with anything buns or the apple braid - it's the same recipe

PS - What's "ground" rice needed for the bakewell tart. Think I might give this a go too this weekend :rolleyes:My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
So we’re empty nesters.
Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman0 -
I think ground rice and semolina are interchangable... unless you are Coeliac!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

just... I didn't bother going to bed in the end.DS3 eventually conked out at around 6am so it wasn't worth it!
My eyelids are drooping a bit now though
I managed to have a good rake through my recipe books while he was up though so it wasn't entirely wasted:D I managed to get a loaf of his GF bread done in the Panny today and his GF brownies then the other two wanted cakes so had to do a batch of Tom and Jerry ones they found at the back of the cupboard  They are hid under the sink cooling off at the moment or else DS3 would scoff the lot and be up for the next week :rotfl:
I found a whole load of recipes last night which I just have to try now..I've got some dates, apricots and cranberries in the cupboard as well as blueberries and I found a nice loaf cake in one of the GF books which sounds rather lush plus some apricot slices and a date and apple cake
I find the dates are not like a 'date taste' when they are put into cakes and they are fine for his diet so we'll have to have an experiment..I'm sure they won't go to waste as the others will demolish them otherwise!!
I plan to do some blackberry and white choccie muffins too as I'm still overloaded with them from the garden..
The bakewell tart does freeze really well but do freeze it plain without the icing then slap the icing on when it defrostsIt won't hurt it frozen with icing but it just goes really runny when it defrost..
I've taken to making mine as a tray bake now as its easier to slice that way.0 -
Dee, Dates don't taste like dates in the Delia sticky toffee pudding. Cut up small and they go unnoticed. Mine aren't fond of dates and couldn't believe that they were in it!
Just done a bit of a re-use/recycle operation... have swapped dh's gran's sideboard that is surplus to requirements for my FIL's organ (pls don't snigger LOL!). It's in DS's room and he's loving it! MIL wants the sideboard for her craft stuff. Organ came with nice stool and a load of music. Whatever ds doesn't want will get ebay'ed.
Could you post a link to some of your GF recipes... please?"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Do you want to borrow a pair of ear defenders??;) I have plenty :rotfl:
My DS3 has one of those Casio things and it's weird seeing as he's so noise sensitive it doesn't bother him in the least*drives us nutty instead*!!!
I think its lovely for kids to have access to instruments I learnt clarinet and drums  at school and DS2 is getting a violin soon through school...that should be fun...DS3 is going to think he's brought a submachine gun home!
Hope he gets on well with it PurpleIvy:D
What sort of recipes do you fancy savoury or sweet??0 -

Sorry but have to ask wont your FIL notice his organ is missing??
I know it was a childish and immature joke but hey even 43yr olds have to get in touch with their inner child
Dee glad your still with us even if it is with the aid of matchsticksWhen you've tried the apricot slice recipe can you post it cos I have a secret passion for apricots

No problem Lesley it sounds nice but I've had things before that sound scrummy and even I can't eat them..and I am a bit of a dustbin:rotfl:
the recipe is quite straightforward...
GF/CF Apricot Slices
10oz dried apricots
6fl oz water
1 tsp lemon rind
4 oz cf marg
1 tbspn molasses
4 oz gf flour
1 tsp cinammon
8 oz buckwheat flakes
2 oz sunflower seeds
preheat oven to 200c,400f,gm6
Finely dice apricots, put in pan with water.
Simmer on a low heat til soft and mash with the lemon rind.*you need a spreading consistency*
Place marg and molasses in pan and melt over low heat.
Remove from heat and add flour, cinnamon, flakes and seeds, plus 2 tblspns of the apricot mixture.
mix until crumbly.
spread half the mix into a swiss roll tin (7x11")Spread apricot mixture on top, then add rest of the flour mix.
Press down til firm with your hand then bake for 20 mins until golden.

DS has ear defenders from before he got the muting pads on his drum kit. My FIL had headphones with it, so those have come as well. FOrtunately sitting room is a long way from his room... live in one of those long victorian villa style houses, and the bit where I sit was the patio, now the extension!
He learns trombone, doing G8this year, has drum kit and has taught himself melodeon, which he has borrowed from the morris dance group. DD has cello and electric bass.
I agree about the music. DH and I met at Youth Orchestra and both of us have returned to music (though in different ways now, singing rather than instrumental) in the last few years. I sing in a barbershop chorus, whereas grand opera is more to his taste! You need never be lonely if you have music as a hobby.
Now then, recipes.... gluten low or gluten free bread, pref with low GI, but haven't sussed this out yet. I have some rice flour, gram flour. Planning visit to health food shop.
I'd love something cakey as well. What is the doves farm gf flour made of?"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"
