I used this site a while ago (all three of my girls are LI) and I know the rice milk recipe off by heart!LOL
Obviously I haven't read all the thread,so I'm sorry if you already know this one!LOL

Glad to see you back Dee, its not been the same without you.
Had a happy culinary accident yesterday. Found a recipe for Trail mix, bit like flapjack, but got lots of other stuff including cheerios!
Decided to make it with kids for lunch boxes, but was in hurry so didnt take out dish till a lot later in the day. Came back to it to discover it welded to dish. As I had made it with children perservered at hacking it out of dish, and got a few pieces to put in lunch boxes , but rest was just bits. was going to bin it but then lightbulb moment. In a bowl, very large dollop of yogurt and it was really scrummy, just like one of those expensive crunchy cereals. I'm going to make double next time, one to cut into squares, and one to bash and have with yogurt
Trail Mix
55 g (2 oz) butter
3 tbsp golden syrup or clear honey
100 g (3 1/2 oz) quick cook oats
80 g (3 oz) packed soft brown sugar
30 g (1 oz) Cheerios
40 g (1 1/2 oz) raisins
40 g (1 1/2 oz) salted peanuts or pumpkin seeds
55 g (2 oz) milk chocolate chips or dried cranberries
35 g (1 1/4 oz) sunflower seeds
1/4 tsp salt
Pre-heat oven to 325°F/170°C/Gas 3. Line a 20 cm x 20 cm (8 in x 8 in) tin with baking parchment and grease lightly.
Put the butter and golden syrup in a small pan over a low heat until the butter has melted. Put the remaining ingredients in a large bowl and stir together. Add the cooled butter mixture and mix well to combine. Transfer the mixture to the prepared tin and press down firmly. Bake for 30–35 minutes until the centre is just firm to the touch.
Remove from the oven, cool for 15 minutes then mark into 8 bars, using a sharp knife. Allow to cool completely before lifting from the pan. Store in an airtight container.
Morwenna thanks for the recipe I was just wondering the other day if I could find a crunchy topping to mix with the HM yoghurt instead of a fruit puree.Plus my kids have decided they dont like cheerios any more and there is a full box left so a good excuse to use it up:T

Lesley, my dd has taken to eating my HM granola with plain yogurt. THis is all very well, but she scoffed the lot! This time I divided the granola into 2 and put cranberries and raisins in one pot (for her) and apricots and prunes in the other for me(she hates hairy fruit like apricots and peaches!so it's safe!)
I got the recipe from this month's delicious mag, I must price up the granola to see how much I'm saving."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

2 mini apple braids sitting proving, a freezer and cupboard well stocked. And a newly discovererd passion for cooking from scratch which my DH, DD & DS all approve of (got my sights on home-made sausages next) , a weekly food bill heading down instead of up , and food wastage shot to pieces (I've just frozen the left over lemon juice in ice cube tray, after squeezing to make braids, am I going too far :rotfl:)
Thanks everyone for all the inspiration0 -
Thank you for the leek and bacon pud! Will give it a go at the weekend - chickenpox allowing (DD1 has just come down with it, so I'm guessing for the baby and DS it is on the way imminently). I am trying to sort out our menu planning and cooking as I spend far too much on food. This thread is an inspiration.
Have made Twink's hob nobs - DS says they are the best biscuits he's ever eaten and DH has eaten about half of them so far. I made half a quantity (I wasn't sure if they would freeze without going soggy) which made about 30. (I don't know how many they are supposed to make - but as the kids are all under 5, I did fairly little ones.)
Apple Braids tomorrow...

PS DH has just pointed out that if I had checked the forums box next to the search box, I'd have got the pudding recipe without bothering anyone else. Oh dear...:o0 -
HAve lurked for the past day or 2 - im trying to read all the posts but there are soooo many im only on pg21!!! Im new to OS and work full time so cant spend all day baking so any quick recipe ideas out there?
Going to try apple braids at weekend as it seems im the only person in the country not to have sampled such a delight - hope mine turn out well!!"With no money you start to discover your own inner resource" GK Chesterton2 adults, 3 children0 -
I was thought that I was the only person not to have made apple braid... until I remedied this day before yesterday!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Hi All
Reading the thread - just up to p45 though! - keep breaking off to bake things.....so just a quick question??
Have made 2 apple braids, one to cook now & one for later. Can I freeze it uncooked or is it better to cook then freeze?? And can I successfully freeze a ham joint that is already cooked or is it better to slice the ham off first?

The recipe was posted by minimooch, not me, although I wish I had
sashanut, if it were me I would carve (okay, it IS me - hack) the ham before freezing it and bag into sarnie or meal sizes before freezing. Can't comment on braid freezability - they don't last that long here, or DD1 visits and takes one home to her student pad.
