  • Hi everyone.

Dee, glad you're back. Hope everything sorts itself out for you and your little ones. I'm going to make the white choc and raspberry muffins with my white chocolate. I've now got a huge block of dairy milk OH picked up for Valentine's. I hate to just scoff it all so will again keep to do something with at some point (if my can keep my strength - lol). Going to shops today so will get a muffin tin and some raspberries.

Vivaladiva, here's the bakewell tart recipe

and the sweet dough for the jammy/apple or fill with anything buns or the apple braid - it's the same recipe

PS - What's "ground" rice needed for the bakewell tart. Think I might give this a go too this weekend

I chucked in more flour - it was still a bit sticky but i managed to plait it. IT wasnt that warm in the kitchen at 12.30am so im not sure it rose to its maximum. Then i baked it and set the oven timer for 30mins. Came back on MSE site and thought ill go and check it in a min - got engrosed - next thing is oven is beeping and 30mins was too long ion my oven cos the bloomin thing had started to crisp up too much!!:rotfl: Apple braid obviously wasnt to be in our house!!
Ill try it again and give it my undivided attention this time. If we cut the crusts off the inside bit tastes nice - a promise of what could be!!

Mental note to self - do not bake and try to read threads on MSE at the same time even if it is past midnight anad you are up on your own trying to be OS

Its like semolina, you'll find it in the supermarket near the pudding rice and such. I use ground almonds, but only because that's what I have in the baking cupboard.. I am listening to hear your oven timer ping so I can drop by "unexpectedly" when the muffins come out ;)

Dee, hope you got some sleep eventually and glad I made you laugh. 2am can be a gloomy time of night :D
  • Now I wish I'd thought to come down at that time as I was having a bad night (knees hurting) and would have felt tons better knowing I wasn't the only person awake so late among a sleeping nation. :D

I must try that bakewell tart, it's a favourite of the boys. Do you think it would freeze anyone?

I don't know how you manage to fit so much baking in to so little time!! I managed to blanch the leeks and the cabbage for the freezer last night but had to go to bed then. Will have to have a go at the rest this afternoon, was hoping to make an apple braid, but we're off to a jive party tonight,so got to prepare for that as well. (How energetic is jiving,as I'm a bit oomphless at the moment?!!)

It's a bit of hard luck here, made burger buns yesterday, but dd suddenly announced that the cello quartet (well three of them) were rehearsing here after Youth Orchestra. ... so I slapped tomato sauce on, grated cheese and a bit of pesto, good response, but not much left in the way of bread. have put the BM on for some more and then have to make bread for wrinklies arrival home tomorrow. Kitchen fairy needs to leave a few things for their arrival you know!

In fairness, I have a much higher capacity to bake, than we can get through. DD is off cake, choc, pud for Lent. DH doesn't like to over do the sweet stuff. DS takes a piece of something in pack up and will have a pud after tea, but not (yet?) much of one for eating between meals. I'm not eating bread really at the moment, as I decided to try cutting it out, wanting to see how I am without the significant quantity of wheat. Will take a look for your GF recipes D. Also wanting to bake low GL. Antony Worrall Thompson book arrived today, 2nd hand from Amazon. I think I only ordered it yesterday! MIght need some ingredients!
