I guess it would be better to do on normal programme and use less yeasst then?
Some BMs now have a special Spelt programme as well.

I have also gotten White Spelt from organic health food shop in past (doves Farm) this rose even more then the normal spelt.

If you want to leave it to bake in the BM use normal but if you want to shape yourself and bake in oven then use dough.

My spelt was Doves farm I think, new packet isn't the same, but I think they might have just changed the packaging.

Yes they have been revamping the packaging on alot of their products.

I think it actually looks better and more in keeping with the idea of a farm growing wheat and using that to make the products etc.

Thanks Thriftlady :D Its hard when they have an allergy like nut or eggs though, as they are in so many things or the cross contamination risk is always there..I totally agree about the books too,I have a vast library of ones I never use which looked really good at the time!! I think they always cater for grown up gourmet food eaters not children or anyone with a normal taste in food:rotfl: Thats why I like the wartime cookbooks as they are much plainer foods which I can 'tweak' to suit..
Have been reading back through the old posts am at page 8 now LOL!!

I too collect cookery books approx 200 can't even get them all in my Cookery book case.

I also love all the war time books and recipes.

Hope everyone's ok. I was given a block of Green & Blacks White chocolate at xmas and would like to make a dessert or something with it, any ideas?

You have managed to keep a bar of chocolate for that long? :rotfl: How do you do it?:rotfl:
  • I have been really enjoying this thread and have learned loads so far! Thank you all very much. D&DD refers to a leek and bacon steamed pud in post 136 (I've still got a way to go to finish - I came in at about page 100 following a link from another thread and have just started at the beginning!) - I have searched the recipe indexes but can not find the recipe for this. It sounds scrummy, and I would be really grateful for help finding the recipe.

    Thank you. J

Or Dee's white choc and raspberry muffins? I made these as the Co-op had RTC raspberries one evening and they were fab!

Who was it who mentioned raspberry freezer jam? I was intrigued at the time, but didn't ask for details...this post has jogged my memory...

I am off work this week as it's half term here.. I have been frantically trying to get my stores (stockpiles - hoardage??) of food catalogued and used in some sort of rotation... My current tactic is to panic once stores look depleted and throw more food/stardrops/toilet rolls/bleach into the cupboards! It makes me happy knowing should there be a sudden crisis/global war/event of national shortage/bad hair day/ lack of cute shoes I don't have to shop ;)

Can anyone help with ideas for kidney beans (it's a significant amount) - my lot don't like chilli, it seems

I asked kids today about favourite sort of beans. DD replied that they all tasted the same in food and that it was just the shape, size and colour that were different! DS likes kidney beans.
