There doesn't seem to be much difference to me - I always get the two mixed up. What IS the difference? Also what is Sad Cake?

Eccles cakes are made with puff pastry and Chorley cakes aren't .

Equally as yummy is the sad cake, slightly larger than chorley cake but it means you can stuff more in.

I have a ton of leeks still, turnips, parsnips, carrots, beetroots(destined for brownies!),and a load of spinach and chard.
Plan to make most of it into dinners rather than just blanching it all but need a 48 hour clock at the moment!!

  • No, no, no to the compost bin. They have spiders

Our garden had one when we moved in. Poor OH and MIL had to empty it and we gave it to a friend who has since made good use of it. OH said the spiders were they biggest he's ever seen. I was no where in sight obviously :rotfl:

and just what are you insinuating eh eh?????:D

sad cake is just shortcrust pastry with currants/raisins rolled in.Whereas Chorley cakes have a filling of currants, sugar and mixed peel. Its made exactly the same was as a sad cake but the end result is a bit sweeter

As for eccles cakes yuck the puff pastry goes solid on the bottom and is so crumbly on the top you end up wearing more than you eat and for a messy eater like me thats not hard:rotfl:

Dee hope everything went well at the school and that you've still got some hair on your head rather than on the office floor;)

I've got some Enriched Dough in the BM to make some iced long fingers.Hubby likes them with currants in.Hopefully it will put him in a sufficiently good mood for him not to moan when I tell him I've just spent £50+ at Lakeland. In my defence though it is an electric mincer and burger press and I got £10 off as I used the offer code.

Can't see him congratulating me on getting a bargain though can you:rotfl:

I'm using minced belly pork for my sausage filling along with breadcrumbs and a bit of sage

I've tried making my own sausages as well, and just use bread crumbs and eggs, but they turn out a bit weird in shape although taste nice. I did once add some of a stuffing mix to the pork ones- oh my definitely worth trying i have a cranberry one left over from Christmas but no pork in:o
Yes the Chorley cake is infinitely superior and i will be making a batch when i have lost another Pound in weight, i actually lost two this week have no idea how:confused: as really wasn't sticking to the diet and eating loads of recipes off here:D Must be the reduced sugar.
Ah well, bargain baking day today must get on-Bobx

Mines full of worms, and i love watching everything mulch down- sad arent i? :rotfl: Wouldnt swap it for the world as it is amazing how much waste we get rid of and how much can be recycled. I really want a bigger garden so i can grow more, i have alarge front garden and relatively reasonable back garden, but my front one is more ornamental and low fences, so i relly dont want to ruin my plant display layout, as i enjoy it so much.
