How did your bread turn out danksshady?
We are having a banana bread frenzy at the moment... made another 3 loaves today with chopped apricots and sunflower seeds as well - yum! Have some lemons so plan a lemon drizzle cake (if I can find the recipe) as well.
Nice to see you back Dee0 -
Hi Mooky
I usually just slap it about a bit to get it nice and smooth before I roll it out,I don't really knead it again as such.
You can try rising it once it's stuffed for a bit longer,I find if the kitchens warm it rises better if OH is home and all the windows are open it doesn't do as well:rotfl:
Thanks Dee
Was more concerned that I'd done something wrong. My kitchen's quite cold so leaving it for a bit would probably only cool it - lol
I'll try again soon. It wasn't bad for a 1st attempt. Need to look out for a bread tin so I can use dough setting for bread and throw in the oven as a lot of people here have said it's better this way.Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!0 -
Yategirl made some banana bread last week the kids were not impressed I thought it was lovely.
Well my feet are killing me been on them all afternoon. All I've managed to make are two apple braids,a batch of twinks hobnobs and some sausage rolls.I decided to make some flaky pastry from scratch the old way and boy does it take some time I really can see why people buy it.I'm going to try the Delia recipe next time but it involves loads of butter and i tend to use Marg for my pastry can you use marg for the delia recipe?
The apple braids and half the sausage rolls are destined for the freezer. Its great to have enough freezer space to finally be able to bake ahead
Dee welcome back sorry you had such a bad weekend with your son.Mine can be stroppy little devils and they dont have any of the problems that your son does so I cant even begin to imagine what you are going through but you have my symapthies anyway

I have gone a bit banana bread crazy! Best combo so far has been banana and chocolate marble bread! Thanks for the recipe - oh and all the girls at work have been having tantrums since DD1 said she had rainbow cakes when she came for dinner here one weekend. I took a batch into work today - you think they vanish fast around children? You haven't seen anything!! :rotfl:0 -

I use this lemon cake recipe - it is delish - I do it as a tray bake
Lemon and poppy seed traybake
cake:
41/2 oz soft baking marg
4 1/2 oz caster sugar
6oz white self raising flour
2 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
3 tbsp milk
finely grated rind of 1 lemon
1 oz poppy seeds
topping:
4 oz granulated sugar
juice of 1 lemon
12x9" traybake tin lined with foil and brushed with oil. Preheat oven to 180c.
Beat all cake ingredients for about 2 mins until smooth. Turn mixture into tin and level top. Bake for 20-25 mins until golden brown and showing signs of shrinking away from sides of tin. Mix together granulated sugar and lemon juice and brush topping over surface of the hot cake ( while it is still in the tin and foil - it will run every where otherwise... )

I tend to make banana muffins when I do muffins, but that's cos I only think of doing them when there are bananas rotting in the fruit bowl! So I daren't make banana bread! Perhaps I could do a couple and keep them in the freezer for when someone wants a cake donation for something.[SIZE=-1]"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit.
