Could you cut it up and roast part of it, put the rest in the freezer to roast at another time? You'd probably get 3 joints out of it?
sadly it didnt occur to me to cut it up until after I'ld frozen it, LOL, but rissoles and curry sound good, have to be a tame curry tho, as DS & DD wont touch anything remotely spicy.
I havent got a SC, thinking of getting one, I get the impression they are good for hiding veg and DS wont touch a vegetable unless its very well hidden :rotfl:0 -
Hello, I've been reading this thread for a little while and been so inspired. Its made me think about how I cook, trying to use everything up and not have so much wastage. Thanks for all the great ideas
finally plucked up courage to post, as I have a question. I was lucky enough to get an absolutely huge joint of beef from mr Ts , reduced from £17 to £5 which looks enough to feed me, DH, DS & DD for a week, so any ideas on how I can use the remainder once I've roasted it?
thanks
well done on your bargain.
After a roast I tend to make a casserole with chunks or slices of beef for a second meal, then for a third I would chop it up really small to make a cottage pie. By this time its been repeatedly cooked and almost falls apart into small pieces.0 -
DD I was going to make an apple braid for ML visiting tommorrow, but I only have one egg left, do you think it'll be okay just with one? I made twinks hob nobs today, YUM YUM. at this rate I'll not save money as I'll need a bigger size of clothes:eek:Grippy is my middle name!0

Ive been dipping in and out of this thread but am going to make a more concerted effort to read and follow some of the recipe suggestions.
I am inspired by all the baking recipes. I love baking cakes etc. but am going to buy some yeast this week and start experimenting with bread / dough type recipes.
If anyone has any recomendations for using up dried apricots I would be greatful as I have about 5 different packets in the cupboard. So far I have put them in bread and butter pud and banana cake....
Ive just done a 16 days worth of meal plans, 12 of them are entirely sourced from the freezer / cupboards (the others just need to buy one ingredient), then I will have to reassess the remains and come asking for help from you guys for suggestions.
quick request please. I have about 12 tins of tuna n the cupboard and I only ever use them for tuna pasta bake and jacket potatoes. Any more interesting suggestions would be welcome.0 -

what about fishcakes? - mashed potato, drained tuna, onion or spring onion (chopped finely) and parsley - mix together then shape into burger shapes. Then optional: dip into beaten egg and then breadcrumbs for a crispy outer. Fry in a little oil to crispen then put in the oven until all are cooked.
Am shattered... dh away from home and I don't sleep when he isn't here  We still have a loaf of banana bread left... seems it is dh that eats it all!!! :rotfl: greedy guts!! Am going to make iced buns at the weekend... think I might make a savoury bread too... how much sugar do you use for a savoury version??0 -

you could make apricot muffins or what about using them in flapjacks?! yum! for an extra special treat spread some melted chocolate on the top of the flapjacks. Or make a crumble - what about apple crumble with chopped dried apricots?0 -
Thanks again Rosie
I know who I'm going to ask when I lose a post !!

Thanks Yate and Rosie - a couple of suggestions there I like the sound of.
Tuna fishcakes are going straight into my meal plan (dont know why I didnt think of that myself - I spent this morning hunting around in my freezer for my homemade fishcake mixture), and I'll add some apricots to our Sunday crumble.0
