Hi girls, hope you're all well.

I did a whole chicken in the SC on Sunday but I wasn't impressed at all. It tasted quite dry to me, esp the breast. I have a fair bit left over - can anyone give me a decent pie recipe?

    Thanks.

wendy whenever i make a chicken pie, i make a basic white sauce and put extra seasoning in, ie salt and pepper. then i add chicken , bacon and mushroom's. ( my mum in law leaves out mushrooms and puts leeks in instead)

then i put mixture into a shallow pie dish and cover with a layer of puff pastry with grated cheese over it. and bake until cheese is golden and pastry has risen.

it is truly devine. Once u have a basic recipe like this it is amazing how easy it is to adpat it. i as a chaneg will add cooked gammon , or i add peas to th chicken mix. u really can change it to suit what u have in at the time or what needs using.

The braid i made come out lovely. first time i have made a savory one.Smell gorg. need to wait for hubby to come home for the taste test now. I made two huge ones. the dogh seemed to go on forever today , lol.

JCR16 I love the chicken pie recipe and use a similar one but I put mixed veg into mine as I never miss an opportunity to get veggies down the kids necks:o The Braid sounds nice how did it taste.Would consider making it for hubby to take to work too but as he doesnt have the facilities to warm it up and I dont think he'd eat it cold

Made a monster minced beef and onion pie and it all disappeared:eek: Have loads of mash left though so will be making some potato cakes with that tomorrow

Quick question for those of you that make your own yoghurt.I made a batch yesterday in the yoghurt maker and it came out lovely and thick but when I made some today its a lot waterier and not so sharp in taste anyone got any answers why?

hubby said the braid was gorgeous and ate half for his dinner. so pleased at that.

he was well chuffed to see i'd made two so he has one for work tomoz. there is no where for hubby to heat it at work either, but he don't mind it cold. were both the type of peeps who like cold pizza , quiches etc.

sometime i also add some cheese to the white sauce for the chicken pie.

i've had a slixe of homemade lemon cake for pudding and oh my goodness it is divine.

i got the recipe from whitworths.

    here
    http://www.whitworths.com/recipe.asp?id=45&product=28

and it is so moist and scrummy. it is sharp in lemon taste , but sweet also if that makes sence.

there are loads of recipes on there. most use basic ingrediants that you would normally have in home as well.
    which is always a bonus.

Looks good but might need a little tweaking for the kids though

I tend to cheat with chicken pie and either use chicken soup or chicken bisto for the sauce, and bought puff pastry as I prefer it for savory food, but you could use HM shortcrust pastry and chicken stock to be really OS. Then I just chuck all my fridge leftovers in - bacon or sausage, onions, mushrooms and colourful veg.

I tried a bean recipe last night and I think its going to be an aquired taste so I will be experimenting with a few different beans this month I think.

I picked up several meat / fish items off the reduced counter today so I am not so reliant on my store cupboard ingredients now, hence tonights planned tuna pasta bake, turned into pasta bolognaise using mince I bought today.

Bum- I forgot it was Tuesday. I had to go out this evening to blockbuster and it's right next to Asda so I should have popped in for bargains. Oh well- DH has done the bonding coat on one wall and hacked out all plug sockets. Tomorrow he's going to do some more plastering. Im aiming for 2 walls but shouldn't push my luck should I?
    TTFN peeps- good baking.
BTW- I have a large dish of already cooked pasta quills- any idea for tea tomorrow. I have fish, turkey chunks, cooked chicken (in fridge from Sunday) and some beef.
I ought to use the chicken but might throw that in the sc for tomorrow and use the pasta the next day?
Although i do fancy chicken pie with mash topping.
Right- off to bed, night night.

i plan once the dough is rolled out , to spread with a tomato base , then add chopped hard boiled egg , bacon , sausage and cheese. making it a sort of breakfast/savory braid.quote]
