any ideas on how to store a savory braid so it doesn't go dry the next day. as i want to make it for hubbies lunches. but find the apple one goes a little dry the next day. i do keep it in an air tight container.
I'm having a bit of a bad afternoon. Feeling mega stressed with rubbish at next door.and although not seen them , i am just feeling low. because i feel like i can't be in my own house without feeling upset. Also they keep ahving loads of dodgy looking visitors. so i got my curtains shut. i feel mega sensitive about it, so prob getting things out of perspective. btu all the plans we made for hosue and garden at weekend seem pointless when i feel so unsettled here.think i am poss at that point of gonna start cryign and not stop.
trying to remain positive tho. gonna go and make some more bakewells i think . baking always takes my mind off things and make me happy.0 -
originally posted by NoahsPennilessMummyalso getting info together on growing veg in pots as have no garden but big yard :rotfl: .......looks very complicated tho.....tried it last year with a few veg but the huge rains didnt help.....i am in south yorks and got flooded:eek:
LOL, yep, we're in South Yorks as well Penniless! we were looking forward to having a huge glut of courgettes, peppers and chilis last year but they all went rotten with the amount of rain we had, nevermind- better luck next year!
(sorry if the quotey thingy doesn't come out right- i'm still coming to terms with technology!)0 -
JCR16 you need to calm down and if baking does it for you then go and bake up a storm.Everything will come right eventually so no sense in worrying about it
By the way I wrap my braids in foil and that seems to keep them moist

Jcr... how are you doing now? I tried to reply to you earlier but db started chatting on msn and I got all distracted - sorry... OK... is it easy to see out your windows? Have you nets or blinds?????? I used to feel very overlooked with people walking past, neighbours over the road being able to see straight in and obviously us into their houses despite us all trying not to look(!) We got blinds from IKEA - the aluminum venetian ones - really cheap even for our huge windows (i.e. sitting room has 3 blinds - cut so they meet where the window frame is so can't be seen from the outside) and I now feel really safe and private. I can adjust the blinds to suit me and the amount of light I need in each room and it is hard for others to see in. Is that worth considering? I agree with Lesley - if you feel anxious try and do something that will help take your mind off it.. If you want to chat on msn at all then pm me and I'll give you my details
busy day here.. been shopping here there and everywhere... trying to avoid Tesco as much as I can(!) Had a huge clean up of the kitchen which looks so much better! Dishwasher playing up (hopefully fixable :S ) so loads of washing up to do to! Have made chicken and celeriac soup (for my lunches), bean stew (for tea with crusty bread - hopefully some over for a "leftovers" meal next week) and plum & apple crumble for puddingTomorrow I must do some baking!

Refried beans are great on nachos, with salsa, cheese, guacamole, chillies etc (to taste). Just put it together on a plate and microwave in short bursts til the cheese is melty
Alternatively i really like quesadillas - get a tortilla, spread some refried beans on one half, followed by whatever fine diced veggies you fancy, and grated cheese. Fold in half and dry-fry gently on each side til its crispy and the cheese is melted. Nice for a snack, or serve with potato wedges etc for dinner.0 -
am sat here anxiously awaiting results of life and death dishwasher scenario.......................... lol!
bean stew was yum as was apple & plum pudding... all went down well... dh didn't notice the lack of meat and even asked if he could take the left over for lunch tomorrow!0 -

Yategirl at my window i have nets , then a bamboo blind then curtains. in the lounge and front bedroom, and in the hallway which over looks garden i have blinds and voile.
i have bought some new voiles for all windows as there thicker than the nets i have. it does look pretty my windows tho, honest. ( plus the more layers at window the more it keeps heat in)
i'm feeling better now. amazing what a good cry does and natter with hubby. didn't get any baking done tho, as had prob with our car and trying to get it sorted.not sure what to do , as all options are long winded and cost lots of money. so for now i'm gonna be grateful i don't use the car much and that my mummy lives 2 min walk away. ( she has a car we can use or she will take me places)
once hubby finished doing some plastering in the kitchen i am going to make a cake and bakewell's.
What stage can i freeze bakewells at please ? is it before cooking/ after cooking ? with icing or without ? i'm not sure . i need to freeze some , otherwise they will all get eaten within a day, lol.
i made a gorgeous dinner. very simple.
Cooked some rice. once cooked allowed to drain.
mean while cooked in a wok , quorn , smoked bacon , onion , peppers and hand full of frozen veg. when all this was cooked , i mixed through the rice. it was delish. served mine with a blob of butter( hubby thinks i'm weird) made a really simple yet filling meal.
my mum does somethign similare but u make it in oven and put in stock and uncooked rice. which is just as nice.0 -
Yategirl come on post the recipe for the bean stew.Any recipe that can separate my carnivorous family away from their meat is a bonus in my book
