Thank you Kethry for the onion marmalade recipe:T ........just salting my onions now and looking forward to it.
Made a fabulous garlic bread dough in the new Panny last night and baked in the oven.....much better than my previous efforts.:rotfl:0 -
Mad mad mad. Just got off the phone from Tiscali.
We got our sky broadband in Novemebr having been disconnected on 15th by Tiscali. So I went ahead and cancelled the dd for tiscali as we're all paid up.
Since then we've been getting threatening letters from tiscali "pay up or we'll disconnect you":rotfl: !
Having had another today I thought I ought to ring them. DH's name was the one on the bill but as there isn't an account anymore I thought (stupidly) that they would actually talk to me.
So I explain to chappy that I keep getting these letters and have no account. He looks it up and says you have no authority to talk about this account. I explained that as there wasn't an account anymore I was ringing to inform them they had made a boo boo. I said I'd been on hold for 20 minutes and that DH was at work all day. So he said he could give me a number open until midnight. Yeah right after I've already sat on an 0870 number for 20 minutes.
He got really snotty with me and said you can't tell me anything about this account- I'm not at liberty to discuss anything with you. So I pointed out that we were with sky now and he said you can't discuss this account. I said I was trying to save them from sending a debt collector after me as they would be unable to disconnect me as I was no longer with them.
He just kept saying you can't discuss this account and I got really cross and said "right, I am ringing to inform you that we don't get broadband from you so you can't disconnect us for non payment. If you wish to send a debt collection company after us fine, I'm not the one who's going to look stupid."
Then I hung up on him mid sentence.:o I feel so mad about things like this. It wouldn't be such a nightmare if DH would ever sort anything like this out but he's so flaming useless at anything like this that it took me a year to get him to ring up for the mac code when we were changing. If he did ring up he'd probably just pay by card over the phone too. AAAARGH!
Anyway, I've just been shopping and managed to only spend £32. I didn't need much but margerine is 1/2 price so I got 6, cheese was cheap so I got 1kg, I bought DD a top as she won't stop growing. I did need tea and coffee so that bumps it up, luckily tea was 320 bags for £3:D . I also bought yeast, dried milk, squash and other bits. I did get 200cc points, so another £8 towards holiday.
Now off to get bread out of bm.
Oh, they wouldn't take back the chocolate fountain:( but I really want my new bm. I think I may just get it while it's on sale and then I can keep it until the other one is totally dead. What would you all do?Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -
He looks it up and says you have no authority to talk about this account.
If its okay with your hubby.. get him to authorise you to speak for him on your behalf on *everything*. Its very easy to do: i'm deaf, and my OH (who's ears work perfectly fine) has authority to speak for me. He just hands the phone over, and i say "yes, this is XX name, XX DOB etc. (identity information) and i give authority for (OH name) to speak for me" and most companies accept that, esp if you explain that your OH has odd working hours.
it'll mean some work initially, and you may have to follow it up with a formal letter with the same authorisation, but once its done you shouldn't have any problems from there.

Kethry - your onion marmalade would you use it like a chutney? or do you do something completely different with it. DH tried some tescos finest red onion relish/chutney at christmas and raved about it, thought I could probably make a whole load for the cost of the tiny jar his sister had.0

I use it like a chutney, it goes really well with anything strongly flavoured like cheese, strongly flavoured meats. It is sweet, when you first taste it, but its a savory sweet. Like for example, apple sauce that you have with pork is sweet. it brings out the taste of other flavours within the thing you're eating with the marmalade.
I've used it in sandwiches, which is lovely, or i imagine it would go well with a savory braid, a few dollops of it here and there so it mixes with cheese within the braid. that would be very nice. it might even work with a pizza, especially if you've only boiled it for as long as the original instructions said and its rather liquid (I reboiled mine and um. it went the other way. I now have onion toffee.. LOL), it would be nice spread over a pizza instead of your usual tomato sauce, but be sparing, cos its quite strong. its also lovely with crackers and cheese.
I think that should give you an idea!!
btw. i should put people straight really. Its not my recipe, i borrowed it from a gentleman by the name of Oded Schwartz who wrote a fantastic preserving book which is now, i think, out of print, and copies are exchanging for about 30 quid on ebay!! I borrowed the one i read from the library. if you manage to lay hands on a copy - hang onto it!!!
keth (who is supposed to be going shopping but is delaying cos it's chucking it down and is itching to see the results of MOT's appeal!!)
