I made steak and kidney in the slow cooker last week. I'm not keen on kidney, but honestly it was delicious. Even my little non-eater had the gravy (with flakes of meat in) on his mashed potato and declared it to be "yum".0

Dee You are going to love that slow cooker. Just think how it will free up your oven space and you'll be able to do loads of extra baking!!!!!
Jcr Yes you can most certaily do puddings in the slow cooker and they are delish. I used to run two sc's when I was feeding a family but wore them both out.
I have had a small slow cooker for some time now and have just invested in a second larger one that will take a whole chicken, although not tried that yet.
Now I can have one cooking the meat dish and one cooking a vegetable dish as there are times when I can't be here to cook and we need a hot meal to come in to.

Morning,
Does anyone know how long the spiced peaches will keep?
I made them about a week ago and have the jars in the fridge, would like to give as gifts but worried about their "life-span"!
Also made the pistachio fudge, really nice and very easy.
thanks

Hi all, Dee - I'm glad you are better!! You'll love your slow cooker - I love mine how nice to receive it as a gift. I bought mine when Safeway was bought out... along with my breadmaker so they match! Yay!
gg2731 - how did you find making the fudge recipe? Is it a boil until such and such a temperature one, or easier than that?0 -
I was just wanting some advice on the dehydrator, mine arrived a couple of days ago and as yet the jury is out, not sure I've done the right thing in getting one. It seemed such a good idea but so far - to be fair, just used the once - mushrooms have been the only success (Ithink), strawberries came out really crispy - maybe I sliced them too thinly!, the apples seemed ok but nobody else will touch them, at the moment it seems like I wasted my money (yikes). I assume if I was going to make whatever into a powder it wouldn't matter if it was over done and crispy, any suggestions for something fail safe to give me some confidence? How has everybody else thats just got one come along - is it just me? Thanks, and Merry Christmas! If it seems too good to be true, it probably is, unless its from this forum!0

Had respite worker in today and he helped lug it all in for me :A he did ask how many we had over for the xmas holsits only us here!!!
He's coming again tomorrow and Xmas Eve which will be a wonderful help..had some pooh news this morning though ...I double booked the Tesco delivery with DS2's hospital appointment so hubby had to go alone with him and we heard today he's being referred to Stanmore for 'THE OP' sooooo its imminent now
Thanks so much for all the tips on the slowcooker I think I will try an easy chilli first as suggested, now I buy the cheapo mince you cook from frozen for this so I need to defrost it first don't I ??
misery-able try some bananas slice them into 1/4 " slices and dry til pliable but not sticky or try the yoghurt dropsdrop a tspn of yoghurt onto mesh tray and turn over once it starts to darken on the edges.(If you don't have a mesh tray use a bit of very lightly oiled clingfilm or easyleave)

Dee, Yes you do need to defrost your mince and I do find that all mince benefits from being browned off before it is put into the slow cooker. A bit off a faff this as I always used to think it made double washing up but I once had to do it to thaw the mince out and believe me it is well worth doing in terms of texture and flavour. But if you are in a hurry (and I'm sure you almost always are) then just bung it in but DO make sure it is defrosted.
All the best with your slow cooker,
