My nerves wouldnt stand the uncertainty of whether I was getting my turkey delivered or not in this last week. I bought mine (a turkey crown) from my local butcher and he vacuum packed it for the freezer. My only worry is remembering to get it out and thaw it in time!! ;)
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

  • Just in case you girls have not seen this and you are braving the crowds and popping into Tesco - have you read this thread about the Gammon/Ham glitch at Tesco's? I managed to grab 4, 1 for us and the rest to hand out to family.

    Look here: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=644895&page=8

    Hope this helps someone.

Thanks so much for all the tips on the slowcooker I think I will try an easy chilli first as suggested, now I buy the cheapo mince you cook from frozen for this so I need to defrost it first don't I ??
If it's a bag of frozen mince, then check the instructions. The one I get says that you can cook from frozen. So, I just put it in a large frying pan first to heat through and brown. Only takes about 10 minutes, and then it's ready to go straight in to the slow cooker:D

Edit: Doh - sorry D. Just read your post again. You already have the one that you can cook from frozen. So ignore my reading of the instructions suggestion.

well i went to morrisons. it was so empty it was great. spent £188. i thought budget was £180 but miscounted money in purse and had £230. so was well chuffed .

i've got a huge gammon joint and beef joint. and lots of other bit's. i getting really excited now.

AS for mince in s/c. i have used it from frozen before and the chilli came out really nice. however i did find i had to scoop off alot of excess fat and water stuff, that i don't get it if fry it first.

but i did use a diff mince. i only ever buy lean ground steak mince, but instead i used tesco frozen beef mince. so this may of been why there was so much fat.
  • hi everyone havent really posted for ages but thought would catch up. oh lord Dee.. couldn't tell you the number of times i've done that. My butcher, i think quite a lot of people request that the giblets aren't in, cos when he found out that i was one of these wierd people that actually *want* them, he gave me 5 loads - for nothing!! make fabby stock with them, and the liver, i leave till its cool (cooked in the same liquid as the stock) then grate it, and when the gravy is made, the gratings go into the gravy. give a lovely texture to it - an old tip from my Gran :) but that's probably why you got the extra one!!

I've been cleaning and cooking and cooking and cleaning and preparing the last couple of days. Down to the last bits now, did the christmas cake yesterday, just got done cleaning the kitchen (top to bottom... well.. almost bottom - i'll leave the floor till later - but there's a ham coming to the boil at the moment in preparation for making a baked ham from it, I've got to marzipan my gran's christmas cake, make some chocolate apricots, then attack the leaning tower of keth aka the ironing pile. :D apart from that its small stuff now, like mince pies, christmas cookies, pressie wrapping. Oh! and picking up the turkey!
:xmassign: :xmastree: have a great christmas everyone!! :xmastree::xmassign:

it may not be what you think.. just chocolate, melted (good quality stuff - i buy a 70% cocoa one from Lidl), little bit of butter melted in for glossiness, then i dunk dried apricots into them so they're half covered in chocolate. Lay on a sheet of greaseproof paper until the chocolate's hard, then put into a cellophane bag. Mom loves em, so they're a bit of a christmas treat for her.
