    ....... and it was brilliant.

Oh thank you thank you thank you D&DD for a wonderful recipe.

Next time I will make it a little smaller, and Im going to try different variations of the sweet and savory type.

On Monday it was my birthday, and I got loads of new baking/cooking things. I got loads of tins/flan dishes, a syringe thingy for icing etc, french loaf tin. I cant wait to try them all out.

Im seriously considering buying a sausage maker, ice cream maker, donught maker, and a waffle maker too.

For the iced buns, when your filling them with jam, do you soften the jam first by hearing it up in a saucepan?

Loving all the tips and recipes on here.

    Jackie

Got the sausagemaker, ice cream maker, doughnut maker and waffle maker:eek:

I think I have waaaaaay too many gadgets:rotfl:

I'll let you know how the sausagemaking goes but for the ice cream maker my advice would be if you intend to use it a lot save your pennies and buy one with a built in refridgeration unit as its a lot of hassle with the bowls that you freeze and in warm weather they can melt before you finish freezing all your ice cream:mad:

I love my wafflemaker and so do the kids;) I've got a delonghi one and its a corker.I'm seriously considering buying another though as cooking for 6 can be quite slow when you only make 1 waffle at a time:rolleyes:

As for your query about warming the jam.I dont but I have to admit I use lump free jam though as I find chunks of fruit block the nozzle so a couple of months ago Asda had a special on jam with no bits in and I stocked up

from my admittedly very limited experience of sausage making I would suggest if you can afford it getting a decent mincer/sausage filler. My cheap ACER hand-cranked one just wont mince the meat at all. It is good for stuffing tho, but they are quite thin, more like chipolatas than sausages. Wish I could afford a nice expensive electric one, the HM saussies did taste nice and absolutely NO salt!

Just a quick note to bump....

Was in M&S yesterday ( they had sausages on offer) and there was an assistant reducing food!! First time I have seen that in M&S - - She told me it was a new thing - she asked if I thought they were to posh to reduce?? There was aToad in the Hole half price - still too dear though it was £3!

Oooh thanks for the Mini Meatloaf recipe.....i am sure ds would eat that.:j

I sorted my Panny problem.....turns out it was the yeast that was past its best:o .....i use those packs of Allinson yeast as its cheaper than the sachets but it had been open a few weeks....how does everyone store theirs?........got a new sachet to try and my bread is back to normal:cool: apparently a god way to test if your yeast is off is to put 2 tsp in 125mls warm water and it should develop a frothy head in 5 to 10 minutes if its ok.....mine just sat there laughing at me:rotfl: .....but thank God it wasn`t my Panny!! .....neither me, ds or oh enjoyed our sarnies on Monday with bought bread for the first time in about 3 months.

Am just typing up the rest of my DLA report on ds as I couldnt fit all the writing in the little boxes on the form......has taken over a week.

So not much OS for me today but am planning on cooking up a storm tomorrow and making ds favourite stew and dumplings:T
I buy the packs of Dove Farm yeast £1.09 (Mr T)and then store in a small airtight box, tghis is fine throughout the month, which is what it usually lasts me.
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 27). Hubby also a found daughter (38).

I always use the sachets of yeast but If I were to buy one of these larger packets I would store it in the fridge

    Evening all!
Juts trying to decide what to cook for dinner-OH wanted a take away so I told him where to go-now the only choice is take it or leave it.

Been so busy all week with work-had Mr S delivery on Monday but they forgot half my order-they didn't offer any compensation-shall I give them a call and see what they say? I said it was OK to get it delivered that evening (the stuff they forgot) but I had to miss Guides and am very cheesed off about it.

Asda did that to me at Christmas - they left out the turkey!! All they said was it was "unavailable" and that I hadn't paid for it!! They offered me a code for free delivery when I rang - but they never sent it. I've never shopped there since....

Dinner for us was super speedy - Nigella's naan pizzas. Five minute store cupboard cooking on a Friday night - priceless!

Hi everyone, is it possible to make the apple braid without a breadmaker? I was thinking of using my electric hand mixer. It's got a dough hook if that's any use?

    Thank you :)
