Hi everyone, is it possible to make the apple braid without a breadmaker? I was thinking of using my electric hand mixer. It's got a dough hook if that's any use?

    Thank you :)

I make mine with my kenwood chef , takes about 5 mins of kneading , leave somewhere warm til well risen ,( Ive often rested the bowl half on the table half on the radiator does a great job lol ) tbh it comes out much better then making the dough in the breadmaker

what is your sig all about the red bit LOL?

Me? Well I wanted to spend no more than £165 on groceries this month, but got there rather quickly, so then decided that I would spend as little as possible over than, hopefully below £200. Guess what? It hasn't happened! Will work out final total at some stage.

  • crikey there's more stuff in that freezer than I could cope with! 5 bags of this and that. I think with the frozen carrots you could make some nice carrot and lentil soup with a ratio of 4 parts carrot to 1 part red lentils, some stock from marigold veg buillon and put in the slow cooker - we eat quite a lot of that for our packed lunches, it's much nicer than tinned and the consistency is just trial and error, using a blender to make it nice and smooth or a bit lumpy. sometimes an odd potato (not blended at the end) makes it slightly more interesting. and if it's too thick then I just water it down.

I have been puzzling the freezer question too...it's the dishes that won't feed 6 that are getting me thinking
Could the one portion of beef stew be stretched with boiled potato to make a plate pie?
Stretch the 4 portions of chilli with extra beans.
Cut the meat from the pork chops into strips and make sweet & sour.
Use the banoffi sauce to make sauce for ice cream or banana splits - oh wait - I've just "checked" the freezer - no ice cream!! :rotfl: Oh well, use as a substitute for the treacle in a sponge pudding.
And there's a recipe for tomato and bacon flan that makes enough to feed your tribe. I've posted it on this thread somewhere. :D

Hello Sharon! Once my ex OH was made redundant was when I started my food hoarding - erm, store cupboard stock piling... :rotfl:

These days, I keep the chest freezer stocked to the roof and the store cupboard crammed. It makes me nervous not to, although everything in the freezer has a RTC label on it... Store Cupboard Therapy anyone..? :rotfl:

Half the money can be done & done well. I had to do this when my OH left me. I found if I really looked at the budget, there was plenty to pare away - stuff that was habit - not essential.
  • I am a bit of a hoarder too.

got to run things down prior to the move hubby refuse to move food to new house!!

I too have lots of recipes to share looking forward to it already
