it was supposed to be in for 1 hr 15, but was looking very brown at the hour mark, so took it out just after that - had second thoughts - covered it in foil then put back in again - must have been too late....

Morweena - thank for the other tips though.

the top often looks done but the inside isn't.... next time move it to the bottom of the oven and turn the oven down slightly and leave it for longer - use a fork - pierce the cake - if the tines are clean then the cake is done, if sticky then it needs longer :)

failed cake and custard - yum!!!! ;):D

sorry not to have posted, it's been bedlum here, had a fantastic weekend off (I work 5/6 weekends), hope you all had fantastic mothering sundays - my little treasure went thru all her girly magazines and selected a handful of men posters that she thinks I'd like - so I've got Matt DiAngelo (Strictly Come Dancing) and Chris Fountain (Dancing on Ice) and Leon (X Factor) plastered inside every wardrobe/cupboard door in the house lol! Her thoughtfulness bought tears to my eyes!!

Had some success with the baking but feeling v jealous when I read the thread back and see how v busy you've all been, Meg and I have made cheese scones (delicious but I ATE THEM ALL!!), 18 cherry bakewells, jam tarts and a lemon drizzle cake, have also conquered beef & mush pies and chicken, bacon and mush pies.

Spent a fortune in Asda and Tesco this weekend but I finally have a new shiny set of scales that work hooray :j

For whoever asked for the Nigella Mini Meatloves recipe, here goes:

    Nigell'a Mini Meatloves
    1lb sausage meat
    1lb ground beef
1 cup quick cooking oats (porridge oats)
1/3 cup steak sauce (Nigella uses A1, I used ketchup/mustard/brown sauce)
    2 eggs beated
    2tsp worcestershire sauce
1tsp Maldon salt (any salt will do)

    - Oven 400F
    - Combine all ingredients in a bowl really well with your hands or fork
    - Divide into 12 balls, shape into mini loaves
    - Place on a baking sheet with space between them cook for 30 mins
    - Eat hot or cold
    - Freeze really well

    Hope that helps!

evening everyone. I am supposed to be creating a cake recipe book for the nursary fundraising next week, which I HAVE to finish tonight and the damn computer wont open the file with all the recipes in it that the other parents have sent me  , sigh , I do so hate computers sometimes.

So I thought I would come on and share my excitement at my charity shop bargain that I found this morning. Kenwood ice cream maker for £3!! seems to work , so home-made ice-cream here I come. Want to make lots of healthy fruity ones for the children, but I suspect chocolate will be early on the must-try list :rotfl:

Was about to throw away end of stale loaf earlier when I remeberered bread-pudding, never made it b4, but it was lovely. Old fashioned one where you soak the bread in milk and it all goes mushy, rather than the newer trendy ones with crusts sticking up if you know what i mean! quite a lot of mixed spice but the kids loved it. definitely going to be a favorite.
  • Oooh thanks for the Mini Meatloaf recipe.....i am sure ds would eat that.:j

I sorted my Panny problem.....turns out it was the yeast that was past its best:o .....i use those packs of Allinson yeast as its cheaper than the sachets but it had been open a few weeks....how does everyone store theirs?........got a new sachet to try and my bread is back to normal:cool: apparently a god way to test if your yeast is off is to put 2 tsp in 125mls warm water and it should develop a frothy head in 5 to 10 minutes if its ok.....mine just sat there laughing at me:rotfl: .....but thank God it wasn`t my Panny!! .....neither me, ds or oh enjoyed our sarnies on Monday with bought bread for the first time in about 3 months.

Am just typing up the rest of my DLA report on ds as I couldnt fit all the writing in the little boxes on the form......has taken over a week.

So not much OS for me today but am planning on cooking up a storm tomorrow and making ds favourite stew and dumplings:T

    ....... and it was brilliant.

Oh thank you thank you thank you D&DD for a wonderful recipe.

Next time I will make it a little smaller, and Im going to try different variations of the sweet and savory type.

On Monday it was my birthday, and I got loads of new baking/cooking things. I got loads of tins/flan dishes, a syringe thingy for icing etc, french loaf tin. I cant wait to try them all out.

Im seriously considering buying a sausage maker, ice cream maker, donught maker, and a waffle maker too.

For the iced buns, when your filling them with jam, do you soften the jam first by hearing it up in a saucepan?

Loving all the tips and recipes on here.
